Best and worst experiences in Y class

Yes, these young'uns don't know what terrible flying is like. In the 70s, I flew Aeroflot Tokyo-Paris. Non-soviets were segregated in a separate Y mini-cabin (good) but as we took off it filled with smoke. When a timid Japanese pointed out to the lady wrestlers employed as hosties that the plane...

    Avatar Uploading and Forum Levels

Can anyone tell me how I got to be a junior member? It's a nice feeling as a Senior Cit. And can anyone tell me how to get the site to recognise my efforts to load an avatar.

Domestic Qantas Club and Business Lounges

I agree the differences are minimal and I always have to reprimand myself for eating and drinking too much in either lounge. An advantage of most QC lounges is a mobile phone free zone. Recently experienced the International First Class lounge at Sydney - had made it there once before a long...

Any chance of success in asking for a free upgrade?

Last time I was last Qantas Gold I scored a few upgrades, even at boarding After a year slumming in Silver I'm back and hoping for repeats, but given the lack of success of many platinum contributors, looks like you've got to be really lucky. When Cathay rerouted me ADL-HKG, they up graded me...

Paying premium for flights out of Australia?

It's a slightly different issue, but I recently experimented with a dummy booking Oz-UK premium economy. I wasn't surprised that BA was cheaper than Qantas, as most think the BA premium Y is inferior; but one booking used Qantas for all segments and was many hundreds of dollars cheaper, just for...

    Best Business Class?

I'd vote for CX, even though my trip in July was the old style seats - still good, great service, and unlike Qantas they are aware of the existence of Adelaide.

    Upcoming Qantas Frequent Flyer Changes

I've never used Air Bogan (Jetstar) but it seems miserable even by Qantas standards not to offer FF points or SCs for business fares without paying extra.

Qantas Club Dress Standards...Stubbies, singlet and thongs....What the???

The best thing about the GFC was the sadly temporary decline of cashed-up bogans in QC. For some, male and female, burquas should be mandatory.

Carry on Baggage - allowances abused to save!

It's at least as important that legacy airlines also apply the rules, especially Qantas - I once got a nasty cut on my head from someone's overlarge baggage falling out at the end of a flight from HKG. And the luggage taken on-board domestic flights is absurd and annoying for someone like me who...

Japan & other Airlines with FREE overnight accomodation

What's with this "stopover's" business - leave the random apostrophes to the greengrocers.

How do you get on the Q 380?

For my first try at Premium Economy I wanted to use the 380 and booked flights that use it only - so they said. In four segments of travel, only one was on a 380. Premium in a 380 is a truly great product but on a 747 it's much inferior and especially there are no toilets.

Best Airline for Frequent Travel in Australia (split thread)

The Roo has become mangier over the years and Virgin Blue is surprisingly good. However, as a QC Lifer I'm locked into one world. Overseas, I'm tending towards Cathay because Qantas is overpriced and inferior in service and despises Adelaide. Domestically, though, I'm usually able to access a...
