Cancel fee is $87 plus the rebooking fee is $27. But you should still end with a credit that will result in a discount on the fare you actually want.

You don't have a choice. It is a flexi, at least you get a flexi meal and can change it with an exorbitant fee, but that's where the similarities stop. If you want to upgrade or get points or SC's you need to cancel it and then book a real flexi or saver.

It is a set fare unique to Amex. You will get no SC's. You can only get around this by booking the flight then cancelling and using the credit to book what YOU want. The cancellation fees are pretty step though. But at least you can use the credit to get somthing that works for you better.

I noticed that Amex are offering lounge entry passes with Gold and Platinum cards. Why on earth would VA give them this option when the lounges are already bursting with status members ?

We are talking about two completely different things. Yes, once you have earnt a companion membership you can give it to whoever you wish. We are talking about pooling and actually earning the SC's, which is for immediate family in the same household only.

The policy already states immediate family in the same household. It just isn't policed and comments on this forum indicate that people can't be trusted to stick to the policy based on their own integrity.

I think those pooling with whoever they feel like pooling with is more of an exploit. I would only allow pooling by written application with evidence of eligibility, like drivers license showing address or birth certificate for minors. Then on the fly changes only allowed with verified family...
