    Flybuys now with Shell Card

I have a Shell Card but rarely use it. Why? EDR points of course. I just pay for the fuel (at Woolies Caltex) with my EDR card /Amex and reap some points, and get reimbursed. The other day I was almost out of fuel (as show in my "ask the pilot" thread pic. I used a Shell. So I used my Shell...

Woman thrown off plane for singing Whitney Houston hit 'I Will Always Love You'

Photos are allowed to be taken on the aircraft. Unless of course they might embarrass the airline and go viral on the internet. "But I'm shooting video!" Didn't that airline blogger get kicked off an AA flight? Or maybe it was United. Mind you, he did say the "T" word.

    Ask The Pilot

Don't tell Mr Julesmac! When I operated a long range truck with multi tanks I ran them dry too (not all at once) While we're on the subject, do ground engineers still (visually) check fuel samples. I remember years ago when I worked at SYD guys poking long poles with some sort of transparent...

    Ask The Pilot

Not wanting to start a debate here (well, maybe a little) but the tank feeds from the bottom. So any cough in the bottom of the tank is going to be fed into the fuel pipe. It's filtered before it gets to anything important, so I find this to be a strange concept. Even though I have heard it many...

    Phone number help please!

I'm having a debate with the wife involving 1300 Phone Words, which is relevant to a business venture we are starting. If you saw a 1300 number on the back of a vehicle, what would be easier to remember: (a) - A "standard 1300 number such as 1300 04 44 04 or 1300 113 331 (bearing in mind that...

    Qantas - thank you

My condolences for your loss. Your father sounds like a great adventurer. The compassion and assistance showed by all involved brings a tear to my eye.

    Escape!!

Maybe they think you're in jail! I must admit, going OS on holiday is an escape from work, and the dog hair (although some of it always travels with us)

    Lion Air crash in Bali?

Sometimes the grass though! Fuel is lighter than water. Ergo, fuel will float on top of the water, and burn. I recall my FB friend telling me how the RFS bought an old fuel tanker to use as a bulk water supply for fire fighting. Well, you imagine how that ended up. :)

QF142 returns to AKL over suspicious package scare

Maybe, just maybe, someone had the audacity to rest their feet on the bottom part of the door while sitting in the exit row, causing the cover to become dislodged and expose the gas canister! :) :) :)

Win a Qantas Trinket celebrating the QF/EK partnership

Lets the readers decide. Most likes win! And if I get the most likes for this idea. I WIN! :)

    Question about Nikon Mini DSLR

One of our pocket digital cameras came with a card. It was 16meg. Last year, before our USA trip I was sorting out my many cards and couldn't work out why my "16 gig" card would only fit 3 photos. Then I realised it was only 16 MEG!! Then I threw it in the bin. Some of the faster, higher...

A little bit of moderation in Dubai.

And I thought I read that you would never fly on her after the "incident" (we must never talk of "The Incident") But it looks like you all had a fun time. Me wonders if Lindsay copped any fallout for leaving the family all alone over Easter though. Great TR

    Multiple EDR cards

The new cards also come with "keyring cards". Also the Woolworths credit card has your EDR card barcode on the back, so you can carry that and someone else can carry the actual card. In the early days I just photocopied my wifes cards and glued it to the back of my card.

    Question about Nikon Mini DSLR

Definitely, pretty much any DSLR is going to fit the bill if it's your first, and will blow any pocket camera away. It's mostly about the lens anyway. You can have a 12 megapixel phone camera, but with only a lens 8mm in diameter it has limitations.

    Question about Nikon Mini DSLR

Hmm, it's complicated. Basically, the DSLR is built around a CMOS sensor (the electronic equivalent of the film frame. The higher end DSLRs have a full size CMOS (i.e. same size as a frame of 35mm film). The rest will vary. A smaller CMOS means that your lens is effectively magnified (sort of...

    So, who plans?

What? Like paper? Do they still have those? ;) Of course, a lot of planning is destination dependent. A USA trip will normally be planned to the last degree (with some flex days thrown in at each city), but a trip to Thailand (purpose - relaxation) will be handled much different. More like...

    Being a frugal traveller

I have to agree with Simo, in that I always go for the full experience when travelling somewhere I am unlikely to return to. Having said that, I always try to maximise cost saving as well. Normally, we would always prebook everything, there are some good discounts to be had for pre-paying or...
