Virgin sets its compass to Asia

OOL-NRT to be cancelled for jetstar, Is that confirmed? I'm gonna miss cheap flights to Tokyo. I wanna have my jap food!

    Finally closed my AMEX account.

I appreciate the call from Amex, but global roaming fees sting you hard when overseas. I always ring the companies before hand to avoid any blocks on the cc. But I agree you need at least two cards, once bitten twice shy.

Scoot $118 to SIN in June

Isn't $118 x 2 = $236. Am I missing something? How does that equal less than $200? A price war could start between air Asia, scoot and Jetstar.

Virgin Australia flight thru Amex platinum credit card

I used my free flight last week and the virgin staff said it normally states luggage. However with Amex booking it neither said yes to luggage or no to luggage. So I guess some virgin staff assume no luggage since it didn't state on the system. When I spoke to her, she seemed to be aware of the...

The devaluing of Credit Card Points and the rise of "Pretend Platinum Cards"

Silly me. Just realised virgin introduced this new route. There is plenty of advertising on bill boards and website. And I didn't even notice. Great for Darwin's economy. Possible stopover before heading over to Asia. so for $149, u can get value for money on one those flights.

    disadvantage to city signature upgrade?

I was asked a year ago to upgrade, just like yourself I asked the same question. I have now upgraded 7 months into signature and it now is my main card wih 1.5 points per dollar spend. Better than Amex regular reward rate. Had I kept platinum Citibank card, I would've been worse off in terms of...

Virgin Australia flight thru Amex platinum credit card

Ive got the plat edge card, not sure if sales conditions are plat reserve. However used the flight twice or thrice and always had it included. Next time I would note the name of the CSR from Amex and ensure they have booked with luggage. I agree its not virgins fault, Amex CSR should know...

    Priority Club

Points are a small perk for being away from family. So if you travel enough, your family can enjoy a getaway. If you can persuade your employer, ask them if you can pay upfront (within their budget) and get reimbursed. That way you can double dip with credit card points too.

The devaluing of Credit Card Points and the rise of "Pretend Platinum Cards"

Free return Flights are domestic direct ex-home town via virgin Australia . So Darwinians choices are gonna be limited. Also free flights include checked luggage (no meals). I would love SYD-DRW but only on drawing board at this stage (jetstar monopoly at this stage). Also free flights are...

    Citibank Signature Card looks....

I prefer if the card looks duller. IMO it isn't as attractive to the overseas sales assistant where they skim your cards details. Duller means lower credit limits. Shinier cards appear to have higher credit limits.

Free Nights Vs 5x FF Points?

Depends on not just nights at hotels, but how many dollars spent per night. Only with these numbers can you do calculations as to best outcome. And to complicate things further, special offers constantly change the outcome. Personally I believe u should choose the qff points for flexibility, but...

The devaluing of Credit Card Points and the rise of "Pretend Platinum Cards"

I admit there are a lot of dud credit cards out there. But some offer great value for money (similarly to some dud home loans/phone plans). Take Amex play edge $149 ($99) annual fee, flying during school holidays the free flight has value over the annual fee plus points. and citi signature has...

    5xbonus at BP 'til 31Dec2011[Ext.to 31Mar2012 - now closed]

Re: 5xbonus at BP 'til 31Dec2011[Ext.to 31Mar2012] Must register your card. That's awesome. Can't imagine how long $50k worth of card took to process. Took $300 gift cards 25 mins and 12 customers in between the wait. I would've bought more but didn't want to risk the cards not working.

Checked Baggage Pooling and Carry On Size Enforcement

I've had carry on bags weighed at check in by DJ staff. But I'm the type that always goes safely under the limit. I can't stand the thought of paying excess baggage at extortion rates. Can't wait for the drama when I travel with a little one.

New Welcome gift - 500 points

Haha my wife looks at me the same way too. Points have more value than peanuts. My wife would've chose the coughtail.

    thanxs amex patinum edge

Free flight is great for use during school holiday flights or for last minute getaways. Worth paying annual fee just for the return flight annually. It'll be interesting if u tried to cancel whether they will offer annual fee waiver plus bonus free flight.

Medibank Private Direct Debit to C'card no longer surcharged

Re: Medibank Private Direct Debit to C'card no longer surcharge I agree. You must have confused non-acceptance of Amex. I've been paying visa/MC for months with no surcharge.

    Amex Australia fail - Safekey

I had the same issue in Malaysia on my holidays. Malaysia is a shopping bonanza hot spot. After 3 rejections at 3 locations. I put the thousands of dollars of spending money on my visa which was never rejected. Amex is also rejected many times in Bali which is also another disapointment. I must...

    Absolutely ridiculous surcharging

We'll see in the long term whether surcharging cc will slowly increase with time. Starts off as a measly 1.5% but then slowly creeps up to 4%. I've seen Amex surcharge at 6%. I remember when visa/mc was 1% surcharge. But noticed with many suppliers/merchants that they are creeping to 1.5%. Even...
