In addition, book a Classic Reward status run late in your membership year now. If you get an offer that works out to be a better status credit per point value (it seems like the gold renewal price is usually 80k), then cancel the status run for only the cost of the cancel fee.

The agent doesn't do pricing until after the seats are released, however they do ask whose account they will come from. So if it's an instant transfer you should be okay to do so after they confirm availability. That said I've never tried a request without having the points available.
