Wadis, Peaks, Souqs and Sands: Oman 2025

Lunch at Gallery by Chele Gallery by Chele is one among a small handful of top fine dining restaurants in Manila. Situated somewhat obscurely on the 5th floor of a bland office building in the commercial district of BGC, it is a collaboration between two chefs: one local and one Spanish. The 10...

Wadis, Peaks, Souqs and Sands: Oman 2025

Manila summary + Pinto Art Museum My time in Manila can largely be summarised by “food, shopping, massage, family, art”. There’s no need to go into great detail of the intricacies of our time in Manila, apart from pointing out the incongruity of the fact that I hate malls in Australia and...

Singapore Transit: SilverKris Lounge T3 Despite the fact that I my flights both used gates in T2, I wasn’t keen to sit in the dark and drab T2 lounge for over 3 hours, so I took the people mover over to T3 and headed up the escalators to the much larger and newer SQ lounge there. When I arrived...

Wadis, Peaks, Souqs and Sands: Oman 2025

And so it begins, with cold churros in the fairly underwhelming Melbourne Silverkris lounge. Despite the international terminal being busy when I arrived at around 22:15, it took 10 minutes flat to get from the value car park bus drop off in front of QF T1 arrivals to SQ J check in and bag...

Wadis, Peaks, Souqs and Sands: Oman 2025

The Sultanate of Oman has been on the bucket list for quite some time, but never quite reached the top of places to visit … until now. As a tourist destination it offers incredible landscapes from coral reefs, beaches and fjords to rugged mountains and desert sands as well as cities with rich...

Qantas Cabin Baggage Survey Results Email

I totally agree that the premium lane at security should have carry on limits enforced as stringently, if not more so than the general. On yesterday’s flight when I boarded in group 2 and took my seat in row 13 I could see that there was basically no overhead space left between me and row 4...

Cheese and crackers are now dinner? (Rant)

Fresh off QF486 tonight (18:30 MEL-SYD 737 service) and rather than the pitiful offerings that have passed as “dinner” for the last few years, they served cheese and crackers in Y. Is this the new normal? There wasn’t a cabin announcement apologising for irregular catering. The party pies or...

Qantas Cabin Baggage Survey Results Email

Another frustrating 40 minute boarding process tonight on a full MEL-SYD flight. The routine 20 minute delays to get going on these peak-suit flights are potentially longer than it could - and certainly longer than it should - take for checked bags to appear on the belt.

Qantas Cabin Baggage Survey Results Email

As pointed out, check in is redundant seeing as it’s all automated now. One of the most sensible things I’ve seen QF do on a couple of very rare occasions in the past 6-12 months is to post staff at the entrance to the security queues to turn people back who had too much carry on, including in...

Article: Are Ground Handlers Gaming Baggage Delivery KPIs?

I observed this pattern on my two most recent QF flights. Arriving on QF102 from NAN at a relatively quiet time in SYD - 6:30pm, 15 or 20 bags arrived within minutes of the first pax getting to the belt. There was I’d say a random distribution of priority vs non priority tags. The remainder...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

26 Dec SYD-NAN. Breakfast flight due to 8:30 departure so it was eggs or eggs (unfortunately). I picked the Frittata. Plus-one picked the scrambled eggs, bacon and potato. Both were fine but nothing to write home about. I would have been good to have a non-eggy option! Service was pleasant and...

    Qantas 2024 review

This is interesting to note. 151k points earned just tips you into Points Club territory meaning that they must have pegged it at 150k to be for the top 5%. PC+ is somewhere between 1% and 5% based on the patterns reported in this thread. Top 5% according to my email for 207k earned and 622k...

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

My flight yesterday, like most, mentioned the two lavs at the back for rows 3-31 and no mention of the front one. QF do the same. Perhaps the logic is that by not mentioning the fact there’s one at the front, all the schumcks will be none the wiser it’s there :shrugs

    Classic Rewards Change Re-Ticketing Issue

The Australian based team at the escalation email are usually pretty good, though not necessarily quick nor responsive. As hard as it is to be patient, my inclination would be to let them try and resolve it rather than futile calls to offshore agents who might bugger things up even more.

    Qantas Wine latest offering

I just made my first ever Qantas wine purchase because I needed 35,000 points by the end of this month in case a classic upgrade clears on some up coming flights just after Xmas. (Points balance zeroed out thanks to recent J redemptions on WY!) Premium reds case for $719 (minus $50 PC voucher)...
