Amenity Kits: What do you do with them?

I too just take what I want out of it and leave the rest behind. I have no idea what Marc Newson intended for us to be able to do with the case. At least this design is a step up from the hard cased plastic things he put out a couple of years ago ! WT

Concierge Service - I am just plain lazy?

I have to agree. The times that I have used the Travel Service, I have been a little underwhelmed by their ability. Including getting my name wrong on an air ticket! But that's not to say I wouldn't recommend using them as a source of information/research. See what they say, combine it with...

    QA vs BA Premium Economy

Am also of the opinon that there is absolutely no competition. QF wins hands down. I travelled WT+ from Toronto to LHR last year and was terribly disappointed. After having travelled QF before, I guess I was expecting a similar product. Katie puts it well: QF is more like J- than Y+...

    Priority Club or Starwood?

I stayed at the AKL Airport Holiday Inn 3 weeks ago and despite booking via the Holiday Inn site found out this week that it was a non-qualifying stay. How are you meant to tell BEFORE you book? WT

Plat card 50% points bonus not always posting

I've noticed that happening a bit too, but then my refunds never have the bonus points removed (ie, only 1 point for $ is subtracted) and there is never an adjustment on future transactions as simongr suggests. As you say - it's completely random, but I've been ending up ahead so haven't...

    CX or QF (to HKG)?

I personally love the new CX J product. If you are travelling alone, it's definitely the better offering, IMO. If you're travelling with someone, the QF arrangement is probably better, because you can at least sit next to them... WT

    QF 453 tailstrike at SYD

It sounds like it was only the tail skid that touched. Certainly wouldn't have required depressurisation and inspection of the pressure bulkhead. The tail of a 767 goes pretty close to the runway during a normal takeoff anyway. Somewhere around 50cm clearance by memory. WT

QF award Syd - LHR options

If you have no desire to stay in Hong Kong for anything longer than necessary, then the 2500 points extra for the assisted booking fee (assuming a seat can be released of course!) sounds like it would be worth it... However, as NM mentions, the QF29 departure time out of MEL isn't the best...

    Everyday Rewards cards Plus Amex

That's odd... I'm certainly getting the 'double dipping'. With the Amex earning 1.5 points per dollar, a $130 spend at Woolworths with the Everyday Rewards card linked to FF, would give 295 points (100 from Everyday rewards, 195 from Amex). Am a non-smoker, so can't help with the other part of...

    AMEX plat charge card questions

You do get Gold with both Prority Club and Starwood. I don't think you need to requalify (with hotel nights) for the second year. Keeping your Amex membership should be sufficient. Someone else may be able to confirm that... There are other benefits that I use more than the PC and SPG...

    Buying a Travel Agency

Thanks everyone for their responses. I didn't think when I started this thread that it would initiate so much discussion. Although, it has drifted a little away from where I started - which was where to look to buy a TA. Thanks to those who have expressed concern for my welfare and advised...

    Buying a Travel Agency

A question for all those TA professionals out there.... If someone was interested in buying a TA in the Sydney area, where would be the best place to look for ones that are for sale? Is there an industry publication or something that people most commonly advertise in? Thanks! WT

Ask Lifehacker: Frequent Flyers And Loyalty Cards

I do think that with so many loyalty programs out there, it's very easy to spread your points to thin, and then not end up getting much benefit from carrying all those card around! The QF/Woolworths tie up was clever in my opinion, and is a good example of how consolidating your points in one...

    Over-capacity on MEL-CBR?

Is it just about the lowest fare available? Are fares still that much different once you add baggage and food/snack/lounge access? Maybe it's just that the QF product offering suits the public servant/pollie market better. If the customer doesn't want the product you offer, perhaps you should...

    Best Travel Blog Site

I'm heading to NZ in a couple of weeks for a 2 week driving holiday, and was thinking I should get with it and blog my trip so family, friends etc can follow us around etc. It seems like the days of the old slide show on return are long gone  What's everyone's thoughts on which is the...

SYD to JFK, QF 107, 108

And not likely to be as far as I know. Rumour has it that from mid this year, the QF107/108 LAX-JFK-LAX will be operated by the A330. The QF107/108 SYD-LAX-SYD will still be a B744 or A380. The A330 aircraft will operate to LAX as the QF25 via AKL. WT

    Reservations not honored

What a terrible way to start the tour, Mary. I hope things got better after that for you. I'm not suggesting that you could have done this necessarily on a group tour, but would checking in online before you leave the hotel/home remove the risk of being offloaded due oversale? If it strictly...
