    virgin blue seating

I'm curious... is the concept that you book a spare seat, check in for that spare seat, but then do a 'no-show'? WT

UAL tail strike at SYD this afternoon.

I haven't heard anything more, but it would have been one of their 744's I imagine... WT

10,000 Points to Enrol with ETrade

This promo has been done before, but I noticed today that it had been reactiviated. From the QF website: I already have an ETrade account, but last year I enrolled for a second one under the special offer, did one trade, then closed the account after I saw my 10,000 points credited. WT

QF LAX-BNE diverted to Rockhampton this morning

But a 747 is still unusual. Give me an airliner to look at anyday over military equipment. :) WT

Bad news for QF, great news for TA's

That is great news. I too couldn't work out how they argued that the fuel surcharge wasn't part of the price. It's not as if fuel wasn't a component of the ticket price before surcharges came along! WT

Jetstar to replace Qantas Broome- Melbourne?

I think Hobart is the same as BME. Only the occasional international flight, but it is still classified as an international port. WT

Flight Centre - Company Owned or Franchises?

Thanks TG. Interesting choice by them to maintain company ownership. Could be the reason behind a lot of their success - tight control over stores? Other frachised based models seem to be dwindling in numbers. WT

Qantas LAX-JFK service reduced to 5 services per week

B744: MTOW-MLW/Fuel Flow per Hr = 397-295/10 = 10.2 A332 = 233-182/5 = 10.2 Rough numbers, but that suggests the optimal range is the same... both types have to fly for about 10 hours to burn the fuel down from MTOW to MLW? WT

RBA undecided on credit card fee cut

Now I'm not as clever as the assistant governor of the RBA, but that doesn't sound logical if fees are passed on to customers in the way of a surcharge. I would have thought that less people would be using credit cards as fees went up - how many people have used their Visa instead of Amex...
