    Jetstar Bali turnaround 'unsafe'

Welcome to the world of long-haul flying. 18+ hour tour of duties are not uncommon, or necessarily unsafe. Just because a duty is long, doesn't mean it is unsafe. A 12hr duty can be worse than an 18hr duty, depending on when report time was, how much sleep you get beforehand, what you got up...

    Fog!

It will only be a Category 1 ILS (which is the same as all others in Australia except Melbourne). Unfortunatley aircraft can't conduct an autoland in fog on a Category 1 ILS, and the weather will still need to be better than 800m visibility and the base of the cloud at least 200ft about the...

    Fog!

When the Rex Cadet Pilot school gets up and running, Wagga Wagga will be getting an ILS. While it won't help in real fog, at least it will give aircraft more of a chance of getting in and hopefully less chance of a situation like yours arising again! WT

    Air Asia..No Alcohol in Luggage

I've been lucky so far with the bottles of wine I've taken in my checked luggage. I would take them in my carry on, but LAGS ruined that idea. I have been waiting for the day that I collect my bag and see red wine dripping out the sides  A commerical bottle of rum couldn't be a DG...

    Airfares to LHR November 2011

That was my understanding too. And I didn't think it mattered when you requested the upgrade as your chances are dependent on status and fare class. But not 100% sure on that. WT

    Beer in checked luggage?

I've packed many a bottle of wine wrapped up in my clothes in my checked baggage before, and to date haven't lost any to breakages. I have a hard case Samsonite and try and put the bottles in the corners where the protection is greatest. The temperature is slightly cooler than the main cabin...

    The safety of LCCs

So if it is okay for the Captain to have his mobile phone on during the flight, why does everyone else have to turn it off? Ignoring that he was texting, the fact that he had it on says that he didn't think there was a hazard. Or was just blatently ignoring more of his company's policy. WT

    Living with carry on

Melbourne is the only place I've seen carry on being weighed. Everywhere esle it seems that responsibility is left to the gate staff/cabin crew. I've always thought the MEL arrangement was odd as different airlines have different rules (eg. QF = 7kg, JQ = 10kg). WT

Video: One hell of a bad 777 Landing

I thought the QF touchdown was actually pretty good! Sure the wings wobbled a bit on approach, but the wheels only touched the ground once. Unlike Korean ! WT

I had a similar experience trying to get some MH 'partner' points credited. I think it ended up being 6-7 months after the flight that I actually got the points ! Keep trying. Eventually it will happen. WT

Noise cancelling headphones, flight attendants and travelers who are tools...

My understanding is that noise cancelling headsets have been reclassified (at QF at least) as an electronic device that is unrestricted from use. Similar to a calculator and camera. The 'pen pusher' referred to above clearly does some work ! WT

Up to 15 000 bonus points for spending $25 or more

I didn't receive this offer, but received a similar (but less lucrative) one this week where I get 1,000 bonus points for every 4 transactions over $10 on my Plat Credit Card. Sounds fantastic I thought, until I read on and saw that the maximum I could earn was 4,000 points. But I still...

    Travel Planning Websites

I was wondering what are some common/useful websites that people use to plan or research holidays and destinations. I'm right into SeatGuru and Seat Expert (although I find them a bit limited in what they actually tell you). But they are a bit 'post event' in that you generally use them AFTER...
