yes, call and say "I'd like to get my payout figure" (whether you owe money or not), and you'll get put through to the right department with little effort.
suspect that actual problem was that a lot of places in the Netherlands just don't take Mastercard at all, but do take Cirrus and Maestro. whether it is enforced by the cashier or the terminal I do not know.
yes, of course lots of applications get you rejected. I have heard rumours that 12 in the past three years is an instant reject for anyone further, too, so do back off for 6 or 12 months.
Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard
though, at $700/year, you need to be doing an awful lot of overseas purchases to make it cheaper than 28degrees or BWP; don't forget to spreadsheet it up before deciding.
it's semi-often down overnight for "maintenance", which is obviously terrible, but it is GE we're talking about. try again tomorrow in .au business-hours, it was definitely up yesterday.
given we have no idea how much you value a qff point at, we can't say, but $15k/year won't even cover the annual fee for some other cards, so this may be your best option.
note that the ING 5% for paywave < $100 thing is likely the best 'rewards' deal available for most people.
$1600/year on CC fees is hard to justify unless you're putting six figures a year through them. If you are, though, what's the benefit of having the Platinum Amex, too? Citi Select is uncapped and will be accepted everywhere the Amex is, surely.
hm, no, no need to pay the 3% at all, given 28Degrees and Bankwest Platinum exist. whether you value the point earn rate at more than 3% is different for everyone, I guess
don't forget Amex has worse acceptance than Visa, and that both charge high overseas transaction fees, so if you're not getting reimbursed for your overseas expenses they may be worth less than a no-rewards 28Degrees / BW Platinum card.
sure, call and ask for a payout figure, then when asked about why, say you're not sure the fee is worth it. then get the fee halved and a cheap balance transfer offer.
