well, it is unsurprising, since Amex charges merchants more. it's unfortunate, but the reason Amex cards often earn more points or have better perks is because the merchant is picking up the tab.

another thing worth remembering is that $1000/month or so means a return of only ~$120 in points per year. you'd make more by buying one coffee per week less and not paying an annual fee for a rewards card.
well, if you're doing a lot of overseas spending, you're wasting enormous amounts of money in forex fees using this card. Bankwest Platinum Qantas has no forex fees and 1QFF:$1.
It's Citibank, it's always a personal decision of "is this product worth the time they'll make me waste". For most things, no, but for this and Citibank Plus, it's a pretty convincing case.
note that the max initial limit for Select is $30k, which you'll go through 17 times in a month. even at the max limit ($100k), that's 5 charge/bpay cycles. maybe citibank will go above for $100k for super big spenders with flawless payment histories?
