Business Class - MEL -> SIN

Not so early, you might end up waiting a bit. https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/sg/travel-info/check-in/airport-check-in/

    Hilton availability in Greece

On the islands in particular many hotels do close for the winter. It's not cold by European standards but certainly not warm enough to be outside sipping coughtails, partying by the pool etc. Average max/mins in Athens in Jan/Feb not really much different to Melbourne in Jul/Aug, albeit with...

Article: How Airlines Erode Status Tier Benefits Over Time

Mine have all been consistent with expectations. In any event, not really relevant to discussion of decline in airline benefits unless said lounge is used by airlines. But there are plenty of exceptions beyond AA Flagship and QF First to the idea that lounges are getting worse. The SQ...

Article: How Airlines Erode Status Tier Benefits Over Time

Not sure I'd agree with that across the board, but TBH most of my post-covid flights have been with star alliance or non-affiliated carriers (and for these using PP lounges). Probably the biggest issue I've noticed is overcrowding not so much a general decline in what is on offer (such as F&B).

    What cheeses me off

Travelling in certain parts of Asia or Africa and dealing with touts (or even dodging the limo/taxi touts after arriving at MEL International) is good practice for polling day. 🤣 As it goes against everything ingrained into me, ignoring any eye contact, and any sort of verbal interaction when...

Article: How Airlines Erode Status Tier Benefits Over Time

TBH stateside you don't have to even be OWE to experience superior options. At the main hubs, the AA lounge offering for OWS (in terms of food and beverages) is so much better than it used to be. But on the flipside the QF international J lounges leave a lot to be desired, particularly at MEL...

Checked luggage on connection flights - different destination

But that's not really short checking luggage, as the SIN-HKG would be a different leg of the journey. Returning to the same point whether it is within 24 hrs or not is never considered a "connection" in airline lingo (or to put it another way HKG-SIN-HKG would never be considered as...

Checked luggage on connection flights - different destination

I wonder if the problem regardless of the story they tell you is the system only allows all or nothing. They can’t do it piece by piece. I’ve had no dramas short checking during long layovers (overnight) on SQ to SIN only. Whilst on Scoot I had to through check and then go to service counter...

Same applies to hotels, if not even moreso for properties outside of the Asia Pacific region.

Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

We just used the old fashioned method of calling Thai (the 24hr number in Thailand as the flight was ex-BKK), got through straight away. Unable to change the title to Mr but was happy to select seat. The call lasted all of 3 minutes. We used ExpertFlyer to check seat map but the agent...

Does The Airport Lounge Influence Your Choice of Airline/Destination?

Flying ZRH-LON last year had a choice of using UA miles on LX, Avios on BA or cash on Easyjet and ended up choosing to Swiss so I could visit the LX long haul (non Schengen) lounge with its whiskey bar. Did involve two unnecessary air-train rides but worth it.

Who is going to the USA, who has changed their travel and what will you do differently?

Wow I’m shocked. Australia would never ever do this  🤣 Come to think of it , all of this drama at immigration would make for a great reality TV show. Something you couldn’t do for Australian immigration because they let everyone arriving at our shores in no questions asked.

Who is going to the USA, who has changed their travel and what will you do differently?

I think for a lot of people it’s more of an emotional response based on how the US has positioned and marketed itself for decades (in terms of freedom, liberty etc). Which is understandable, psychologically our emotions tend to be dominant over the brain in decision making. Also the thing is...

Who is going to the USA, who has changed their travel and what will you do differently?

Back perhaps to the original topic, what is hard to understand with all these stories is this new or is it just more of the same that's going on for all of the modern era? At the borders, I'd always (perhaps cynically, perhaps not) assumed that immigration personnel profile people (based on...

Melbourne International Business Lounge Dungeon Food

That makes a lot of sense. The more I think about, the more I can see the dungeon description being accurate for section where the bulk of the catering and the bulk of the people gravitate to. This section on the left is much lighter and less dungeon like feeling, so maybe that's why I don't...

Melbourne International Business Lounge Dungeon Food

People complain about it being a dungeon with no natural light … but the decor, layout etc and condition of the lounge is entirely reasonable for what it purports to be. Prime QF real estate is preserved for the First Lounge, as it is for the Business Lounge in the domestic terminal (vs Qantas...

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

For it to work commercially they'd have to join the AA/BA/AY/EI/IB JV arrangement you'd think. Otherwise would be challenging to generate a decent profit from the sector.

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

I haven’t at all thought it through, but when they have four aircraft would a SYD-LHR-MEL-LHR-SYD make scheduling any easier?

Business Class - MEL -> SIN

IIRC there will be no F check in counter for SQ248 as no F on the service. You might need to remind the check in for F tags though. Fairly certain you will be able to get in the F lounge.

    Airfares to US to drop?

Yeh, even if economic conditions do significantly deteriorate it could swing either way. The American carriers have a lot of capacity discipline these days, and significant loss of yield may translate to cuts in capacity and this push fares back up a bit. Likewise with QF, they could choose to...
