Who is going to the USA, who has changed their travel and what will you do differently?

What I don't understand is on the graphic in the video it costs consumers $799 to buy an iphone and under a 43% tariff the iphone will cost the consumer $1150. That assumes the consumer is importing the iphone themselves.! And leaves no margin for retailer or Apple in the US from the retail...

Who is going to the USA, who has changed their travel and what will you do differently?

Will be interesting to see what happens. Pricing can be complicated. and particularly where IP royalties are involved. A 100% tariff on (imported) iphones doesn't necessarily mean that what the consumer pays for the will double, it depends on what Apple is paying the supplier, where the IP...

    What cheeses me off

With all the crazy movements and losses on the stock exchange I shouldn't be cheesed off at such a trivial matter thing, but when an order for shares gets only partially fulfilled (as in 1/500th of the order you placed) you end up paying brokerage that is 50% of the purchase amount for said...

Lounge Opening Times for SQ248 - MEL to SIN?

When I took SQ 248 I was the only passenger in the lounge (as a Supplementary Soilitaire card holder). It was a quiet affair and the lounge was more or less unstaffed in between ordering food and the food being delivered to me. The staffing in the lounge in usually minimal when expecting a...

    Jetlag minimisation/avoidance strategies

Yet I find that alcohols exacerbate, not help with jetlag. Particularly wines.

    Jetlag minimisation/avoidance strategies

I think on these day flights to Europe you get a few who leave the window shades open either for a few minutes or for longer periods. IME (and I did three such flights last year from SIN, one each to LHR, CDG and FRA) most passengers don’t seem to be that organised around sleeping (unlike the...

    Jetlag minimisation/avoidance strategies

Agree totally. Even after sunset or in winter an hour or two of walking around helps stay awake until bed time proper and helps the reset.

Lounge Opening Times for SQ248 - MEL to SIN?

There's a recent article in Nine media reviewing the flight posted on 25 March indicating lounge was open. https://www.smh.com.au/traveller/reviews-and-advice/a-punishing-start-but-this-business-seat-lets-you-bounce-back-20250211-p5lbb2.html or...

    What cheeses me off

WCMO if that every 3 years we are subjected to a couple of middle aged men criss crossing the country for 5 weeks essentially just engaging in cosplay.

Duty Free? Sydney - Singapore - coughet

It does depend on the final destination/ Certainly it is the case if transiting to a flight onwards to EU, US or Australia you can only carry on duty free alcohol purchased at SIN (with the latter two requiring 90 mins and gate delivery as well). If going to other destinations - it seems YMMV.

    What cheeses me off

In my (rather odd) mind that's exactly what I call priority boarding! Not standing in a holding pen or around a gate (without a holding pen) for 20 mins, just so I can be first on the plane. Being last on the plane and having the doors close behind you is true priority. 🤣

    What cheeses me off

Depends on the airline. For SQ flights the gate closes 10 mins before departure. Although for long haul flights they will often try to close it earlier than that so will actively look for those who haven't yet boarded. My aim is usually T-20 for SQ, rarely any queue for security then. For...

Duty Free? Sydney - Singapore - coughet

IME generally they only bag and deliver to the gate for Australian and US bound flights (and must be purchased at least 90 minutes before the flight). For flights to other destinations having it in sealed bags with receipt attached is required to carry through security and it will not be...

Cheap J flights SIN - BCN with Saudia $2200

With about 17:25 total travel time, realistically it’s only about 19 hrs without access to grog. I’m neither an alcoholic nor a teetotaller and going without alcohol for 19 hrs is something I do almost every day. But likewise it can sometimes be a few weeks between drinks for me and it...

    Jetlag minimisation/avoidance strategies

My ideal would have been the mid afternoon flight to HKG overnight and then the day flight to LHR (which I’d stay up for). But that aside it really depends on how you deal with things. If it were me, I’d aim to sleep as much as I could on the overnight then try to get a few more hours at the...

    Airfares to US to drop?

Also with reports of 40-50% of super invested overseas it works out to be somewhat of a hedge against falls on overseas markets as well. Simplifying it but Wall St drops 7%, AUD drops 5% then Australian funds invested in Wall St only drop 2% in AUD terms.

Qantas to start flights from Darwin to Singapore

The Changi Airport website also lists codeshares on QF’s MEL and PER flights. Not SYD as that would compete directly with BA metal service.

Qantas to start flights from Darwin to Singapore

Not forgetting the non one world services that QF seem to have a stronger affinity with than their one world partners - including 3K services, AF/KL to CDG and AMS, MU to PVG. It’s really just replicating the similarly timed arrivals from PER, MEL, SYD and BNE. And I bet sometimes it might...
