Cancelled flights & waivers due to Cyclone Alfred

Yes, exactly. I was (fortunate) to be north of both Larry and Yasi, and the winds were actually blowing from the south, and then from the west for most of the time once they got close to the coast and crossed the coast. Without the eye over water, it should dissipate fairly quickly, however...

Cancelled flights & waivers due to Cyclone Alfred

Perhaps not entirely true. (Let me explain my reasoning.) Sure, while the most intense winds are at the eye (but not in the eye.. it's calm in the eye...), the red line shows the "Destructive Winds" area, and it easily reaches well into the suburbs before the eye arrives. So depending how slow...

Cancelled flights & waivers due to Cyclone Alfred

The joke going around town (Cairns) is that Brisbane will get the cyclone but we’ll still cop the Insurance price hike to compensate. I’m already paying $5.5k p.a. for home & contents, so I’m hoping the thought only remains a joke.

Cancelled flights & waivers due to Cyclone Alfred

I’ve been saying to my family in BNE that power outage for a couple days is probably the most likely outcome. BNE cops plenty of severe thunderstorms that are probably worse than this cyclone will be, but they pass through very quickly. If it remains a higher Category 2 when it nears the...

Cancelled flights & waivers due to Cyclone Alfred

You can view historical Cyclone tracks at BOM here: http://www.bom.gov.au/cyclone/tropical-cyclone-knowledge-centre/history/tracks/ Brisbane is not immune to cyclones... just not as common an occurrence as locations further north.

Cancelled flights & waivers due to Cyclone Alfred

Here's a link to the Cairns Airport Cyclone Management plan. Cyclone Plan » Cairns Airport I would assume Gold Coast and Brisbane airports would have similar. It will give you an idea of when things start shutting down and when they allow the airlines to fly back in. In Cairns, they start...

Cancelled flights & waivers due to Cyclone Alfred

The US Navy Joint Typhoon Warning Centre, I find, has better long terms forecasts for Cyclones... they are currently showing it dropping down to 45 knots Wednesday and 35 knots before it crosses the coast, so I think that is barely a Category 1. It will still mean some disruption to airport...

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

You may find the airport may even close for a time. Once a Warning (after the “Watch” period) kicks in, the airports will enact their management plans and start preparations to shutdown. Watch is issued 48 hours before. Warning is 24 hours before. Won’t re-open until the cyclone has passed...

Tight ITL to ITL connex at Changi on 2 x SQ flights - are there security or customs delays etc?

Always worth doing the research for transit and duty free rules for whichever airport one is flying through. Every airport and country have their own nuances. I thought the Singapore rules about the difficulty of getting duty free bags through the at-gate security check was well known...

    Qantas flight cancellation, costs incurred

Have you considered other car rental options/companies or tried to start a new one way rental booking to see if the same one-way fee applies? Do you need a car in Noosa or could you consider transfers and uber for trips getting around? (Would that work out cheaper than $350..?)

    How does "Family Offer" work?

This. Just select one room in the search criteria with children in the quantity. Then it will offer the Family rate with two rooms being offered.

    Seasonal DRW-DOH floated

CNS has been trying to get one of the ME3 for decades. When the government rejected QR’s increase in flights in the last couple years, I thought it might finally get them one via a tag flight (that is, QR could increase flights to SYD, for example, if they tagged CNS on like they do the MEL/ADL...

    All About Airport Curfews

Airports don’t choose to have curfews… they are forced upon them by external forces. No airport would ever choose a curfew. The logic commented here means that if the government or protest groups force the curfew on the airport, then those parties should provide the facilities.
