    Celebrating a birthday

Yes, you're far more likely to get some assistance from cabin crew, even if it's just several of them singing "Happy Birthday". And bring your own cake if you must, but I expect that either F or J cabins will have some sort of cake on the menu. But don't count on being able to bring your own...

    MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

It would be hard actually. AFAIK the CVR "black box" only records the voices of each pilot and the general coughpit sounds, not radio communications received by the pilot. In any case, the CVR only records the last 60 minutes of the flight.

    MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

I have to disagree with you on the issue of "closure". It is one of the most over-used expressions in the media in the past 5 years or more. Many people never find closure when loved ones die unexpectedly, despite bodies being found, or perpetrators being sent to jail for life etc. Yes, it...

    MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

Yes, that's what I'd expect. The first priority would be to try to regain control of the aircraft. Radio calls from a stricken aircraft are mostly for the benefit of others, not the occupants of the plane. Do you recall the length of time from the incident on QF30 till you made your radio call?

Advice needed for (primarily) West Coast USA road trip.

If you're going anywhere near the Grand Canyon, don't miss out on going to BRYCE CANYON. Personally, I find the Grand Canyon to be too big. If you're interested in getting down into the canyon it takes half a day and is exhausting. And it's crowded. On the other hand, Bryce Canyon is...

Food and Customes - Travelling wth Baby/Toddler to United States

US Customs are far more lenient than Australia regards travellers bringing food into the country. Just Google: US Customs food restrictions, and you'll get a list of helpful websites. Whilst you need to declare all food, they allow you to import some cheeses, fresh fish, some fresh fruits and...

Upgrade confirmed in morning, but cancelled on check-in

I've been fortunate to have had a number of points upgrades on QFi, and every time my TA later tells me that he'd noticed that my upgrade came through. I expect that all TAs get notified of TA booked flights where the customer requests a points upgrade directly with QF.

Tourist Refund Scheme - Max limit?

I've claimed the TRS on photography items valued at a bit over $2,000 on several occasions in the past 2 years. Travelling alone, so with a customs limit of $900, I've declared the item on my return, and simply been thanked for being honest and told to keep moving.

Upgrade prospects for flight to the USA in Oct '14?

Last year I flew with my sister SYD-LHR on QF1 & 2. I'm WP and my sister is a lowly NB. Our booking was in J, and I requested a points upgrade to F for both of us, and we got them, both ways! My sister had no status and almost no points in her account, never before having flown as a QFFer...

Credit Card for Uncapped Qantas FF Points

The Woolworths card is excellent, given that they give 1 QFF point per $1, uncapped points, and their fee is only $89 a year. However, if they believe that you're using it for business expenses, they'll cancel the card without explanation. The most common cause I've heard of is using it to...

    Best CC for QFF points

I agree. For an annual fee of only $89, they give 1 point per $1, and there's no annual points cap. The downside can be that they sometimes give unrealistically low credit limits to start, and never ever use it to pay one's quarterly BAS payments to the ATO or your card will be cancelled.

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Neil Perry, a few weeks ago in the QF Flounge, where we were both waiting for QF11 to LAX. He was probably going to the "G'day USA" event where Qantas was having an event. I was surprised to find him in the Flounge, for I'd expected that he'd be a CL member. But he was at least later sighted...

Upgrade confirmed in morning, but cancelled on check-in

Showing the waitlisted segment for a points upgrade request is even more confusing when one looks at the Qantas iPhone app. It shows two entries for the flight, one being that which was booked and confirmed and the other being the waitlisted one, however the iPhone app has no indication that...

    WP treatment in Y

I had fantastic FAs on QF1 SYD-LHR in December. I was in F and told the FA that the rest of my family was back in hell, and asked if they might be able to provide them with sort some of treat. The FA immediately checked on them, and provided them with an F amenities kit each, glasses of...

    Qantas Cash Card

re: Qantas Cash Card I suspect that this problem is related to how some EFTPOS machines know the country of origin of the card. How many times have you been offered to pay in AUD or the local currency?

BA T3 F Lounge Runs out of Champagne

Whilst I prefer champagne with my food, so long as they still had a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label ($150 a bottle at Dan Murphy's) I probably would've stayed.

Why do people in the US actually bother with lounge access?

It seems that I've had a completely different experience with an AA lounge to nearly everyone else here. I was at LAX last Friday evening, with 5 hrs to wait for QF12 to SYD. I'm QF WP and arrived from a domestic flight at T4, so went up to the AA Lounge and into their Flagship lounge. Entry...

It's standard procedure for US Customs to engage arriving pax in some sort of conversation, to see whether your responses are anything out of the ordinary.

How good is the Qantas First Class lounge in Sydney?

DXB's F lounge is like a huge lounge-room with its classical furniture. However, my problem is that if you're travelling SYD-LHR you'll be there around 1am, or if travelling back you'll be there around 8am, and probably very tired - not the time to enjoy their facilities properly. In Sydney...
