    Istanbul Ataturk lounges

I didn't know that HSBC had airport lounges. I thought that they were only into making airbridges. :D :p

St George Amplify Signature Card 60,000 Qantas/Amplify points - Annual fee $279

I'm pleased to report that I've had my 60,000 points posted yesterday, despite my first purchase being just 7 weeks ago in late March.

How do you explain your frequent flying?

Like many here, I don't like to brag about my frequent OS trips and that I'm usually in a higher class cabin than they ever would consider using, yet I enjoy dribbling out just the occasional tidbit about my travelling. If they ask what the higher cabins are like then I take that as my cue to...

QF A380 out of action for 6 weeks

Similarly in the IT world, when one hears that an "upgrade" is being done, it often means that they're primarily fixing a fault rather than adding any new functionality.

Opal card trick to get unlimited public transport in Sydney for $15/week

Simplest method for city workers would be to catch a bus for just one stop during one's lunch break. That'll get one's list of Journeys to 8 by lunchtime on Wednesday. People here are chatting about Trips. It's Journeys that count, not Trips. A Trip is any ride using the Opal Card. It's...

St George Amplify Signature Card 60,000 Qantas/Amplify points - Annual fee $279

I've just received my Amplify Signature card and want to use it to pay some personal tax at the ATO. I've read the T&Cs re QFF points carefully but I can't find any reference in it to paying the ATO. Can anyone see a Clause that's relevant...

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Good to see the Noble One onboard. It started out being only available in the SYD Flounge. Good to see that they bubbles are on ice. When I first visited that place 3 years ago the bubbles were merely sitting in the cool basin and were barely cool.

Whats the best USA sim card deal at the moment?

Do any other internet services on your other device work, apart from any web-browser-based services? Eg. iTunes, Outlook, BitTorrent, Kindle reader, etc.

Whats the best USA sim card deal at the moment?

Correct Serfty. Whilst AT&T block the Hot Spot function in the iPhone, others can block it by the type of browser used, I guess on the assumption that IE or Firefox aren't used on a phone. I'm frequently in the UK and use the Three.co.uk pre-paid SIM for £15 a month for unlimited data, and...

Whats the best USA sim card deal at the moment?

I remember using an AT&T SIM last year at Vegas, buying it at an AT&T operated kiosk at a mall for around $50. Like you, I was very disappointed that it blocked hotspotting on my iPhone, but given that my hotel included free wifi I was happy enough. So I had a look at SimCorner's website...

    Qantas FF Points Expiry

The smallest purchase on the Qantas store is about 3,750 points. My wife is doing that each 17 months to avoid losing her points as she's not flying these days. One of the options in the Qantas store is to buy a Gift Card worth about $25 which you can use productively at Woolworths, JF-Hifi, etc.

In the company of cowards [re: David Hicks]

Agreed. Whilst we can remain sceptical of what he did in Afghanistan, he was convicted by a kangaroo court of a crime that wasn't an offence when he allegedly committed it, kept in appalling conditions for too many years, and has now had the conviction overturned. None of us really know what...

    Transfer from Jetstar to Qantas

Additionally, QF says that they close check-in for international flights at 90 mins before the flight. That now gives you just 60 mins to get your bags, get a train between terminals, and check-in. What happens if your Jetstar flight is late departing BNE and you miss your QF flight? Or...

    Hotel at DFW for stop-over

I'm soon doing a 1-night stop at DFW, and considering staying at the DFW Marriot Airport South, primarily because it has a heated indoor pool as required by my wife. Feedback welcome.

    New Laptop advice

I'm also a Toshiba Portege R* fan. They're lightweight, thin, and have an optical drive. Their SSD drives are a bit small, so I've replaced mine with a Samsung 1TB SSD, and it now fits all my photos while on a travel expedition.

    Maximising SC flying in USA

A related question for maximising SCs while flying Domestic in the US: I'm planning to fly DFW to NYC on AA, and there are a couple of QF code-share flights on that route. Will I earn at a higher rate if I select one of them rather than just any AA flight?
