Suggestion to leave the paranoid HSBC credit cards

I've made 4 overseas trips in the past 18 months and use my Woolworths (HSBC) credit card frequently overseas. I always call them prior to travel, and not once has my card been blocked. And at $89 a year, no cap on points, and 1 point per $, it's gotta be the best card around.

    Loss of Points. Advice please.

I sometimes read the Qantas page on Facebook, and every day someone is complaining that they've lost all their points. Unfortunately, the Qantas Facebook feedback page is just full of whiners and whingers. It does appear that Qantas is very poor in warning the FF members that their points are...

2015 Gallipoli Ballot - 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings

I'm fortunate to have been to Gallipoli, and found it to be a very moving experience as I wandered through the various cemeteries there. It was very peaceful there as I read Attaturk's wonderful statement about how Turkey regards those who are buried there. "...You the mothers who sent their...

Ripped off by Alpha Flight Guru

Have you actually received the full refund yet? If not, then I and others here will remain sceptical. Please let us know when you receive your full refund.

Travel insurance - optional or essential?

It's probably not essential for domestic travel here, but with an annual insurance policy you're covered anyway. For anyone who travels OS more than about 4 weeks a year, then it's probably worth getting annual travel insurance.

    The totally off-topic thread

That's fine if you join the business and are aware of the contract terms re Xmas shutdowns, but it'd be tough for those who've been there for a long time and expected to agree to these new terms.

    Cabin temperature

Another issue with any airconditioning system that is not usually considered is the volume of air generated by the aircon. High levels of air throughput, regardless of the air temperature, make the body feel cold. Conversely, low volumes of air make the body feel warm. So, when we ask the FA...

Qantas all day check in @ SYD for international flights [Is it for All Int. Flights?]

This trial started early 2013, and a few months ago was expected to become permanent.

Another LHR transit question, but the other way round...

My memory from a couple of years ago is that at LHR your international luggage will be checked through to the destination airport IF that airport is an international airport and so has Customs staff. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that). This is unlike the USA where your bags must be retrieved...

    Qantas Flight Delays

Yes, it does sound more sensational than simply reporting that it was Newcastle airport. And apart from being fully owned and operated by the RAAF (except for the commercial terminal), it has only one runway.

    Qantas Flight Delays

And actually departed (from the gate) at 20:42.

Does everyone have constant issues with their airline?

I PLAN for most of my flights to arrive late. When travelling international, followed by a domestic flight from say LHR or LAX, I never rely on the minimum connecting time of 2hrs, but opt for one 3-5 hrs later. It's a bore, but far more reliable, and reduces my stress for the whole journey...

    IFE on A380 & 747

I was recently in a QF A380 in F, and tested out a USB device in their system. There's an option in the IFE menus to select one's own media, so then inserted it, which held a selection of MP3 and JPG files. The results were disappointing. Of the MP3 files, most were listed twice on the...

First time into QFF First Lounge - what to expect

Correct. When I was there in June, they offered to store my carry-on bags when I arrived.

First time into QFF First Lounge - what to expect

When I last flew with QF to LHR in June, I checked in at the usual 3 hrs, only to be told that I could now check-in anytime of the day of my flight, and that it was a trial by Sydney Airport that was expected to continue. She didn't say it was a trial by Qantas, but by the airport. Has anyone...

Why doesn't travel in premium cabins excite me as much as it should?

Until I reached my middle ages I could ever only afford Y fares, but now that I'm benefitting from a range of good decisions :), I'm now able to afford premium cabins. Who enjoys cattle class long-haul flights? Not me! So I've been fortunate to be able to afford to pay for J for long-haul...

    Declining levels of IFE

Agreed. Most of my travel is long-haul with QF, so I always take my iPad loaded up with a number of films I want to see. The IFE is disappointingly very low-resolution, so I only use it to watch some of the fascinating documentaries that they regularly load. My iPad has 2048 x 1536...

    QF F Experience Questions (QF1 & QF2)

Agreed. The only advantage of using the F Dining Room at LHR T3 is that a waiter serves you, and you get a better view. But the menu provided is only a subset of the food that is available to everyone else in the F Lounge. Next time I'll stick with the self-serve food.

    The Age/SMH reclining seat survey

It's extraordinary how passionate most people are abut this issue. Half the people insist that it's their right to recline their seat anytime out of meal times, whereas the other half are the victims of seats being reclined into them and want them banned. There's only one solution to this...

QF A380 Business Window seat ease of access

In the A380 in J, I always select the centre seats, whether travelling with my wife or alone. I just don't want to be a climber or climbee. And the idea of having a window seat for the view is a momentary thing, for if going to or from LHR then you're mostly flying at night, and even by day...
