    IHG Hotels that recognise status

I was just about to edit my last posts to include this. Went out to grab some takeaway for dinner and bumped into the manager on the way back in. Started chatting so I thought I'd ask what the deal was with the downgrade. Apparently they are refurbishing the entire hotel and currently have 4...

Where to watch the AFL final in Hong Kong?

Somehow I managed to book a holiday to Hong Kong that includes the AFL grand final day. :( I know my chances are slim, but does anyone have any ideas on where I might be able to watch the final? The next mission is convincing the other half that we should spend a day overseas watching the final.

    Air Crash Investigation

It's probably the only show on TV that I will refuse to watch. Not sure why because I usually don't freak out about things. Kind of has the same effect as spiders... I can't even watch shows about spiders. I'm happy to know that accidents happen, but I don't need to be reminded about them.

You know you're addicted to flying when...

... you play "Boarding Pass Surprise". A game where your TA give you a date, duration, time and airline. You turn up to the airport packed to go anywhere domestically. Note: only works when you have a dull job that can be described as "same work, different location". Today's surprise was...

    1000 points for 5 transactions

One reason for wishing you had the titanium card... Seriously though, you may as well make use of the rapid replacement that amex pride themselves on. Especially with another promo to exploit.

    Darwin... QF and restaurants

I've been heading up to Darwin regularly in the last 6 months. Unfortunately most of my trips were solo so not a lot of restaurant dining. Hunuman: Excellent. Nice fresh location with decent service and tasty food. Char: Wasn't my favourite. It's just me though, I have issues paying for steaks...

    Flying on your birthday

It was strange! I was standing there waiting for them to process me (two customs/immigrations officers) and they kept looking at the passport, looking up at me, looking at the passport. Here I am thinking "Oh great, what is wrong....." Then they both suddenly burst out in song!

    Flying on your birthday

I once had customs/immigration in Singapore sing Happy Birthday when they checked my passport and noticed it was my birthday. Other than that, nothing special has ever happened to me.

Best way to access cash overseas

Would the Wizard card still be recommeded for a short one off overseas holiday, rather than a regular overseas traveller? Are they a company that constantly junk mail or telemarket?

    Spontaneous trips

Where do I start? A few years ago I was missing the then girlfriend (now wife) while I was stuck working in Auckland. Called her on the Friday to tell her to cancel her weekend plans and to pack because I had booked a flight over so we can have dinner that weekend. Then there's the time that...

QFF domestic economy - what's on the breakfast menu?

Chances are you'll end up with some kind of cereal with a fruit bag and a warm sultana bread roll. Selecting a special meal might not help either. I haven't had any luck with Qantas and my egg and lactose intolerance. Maybe this is why I prefer DJ - yes you pay for the meal, but you get to...

    Pacsafe bags

Hi, Does anyone have any experience or feedback on Pacsafe bags? I'm looking at one for trips where it's difficult to not look like a tourist (ie: carrying around the SLR camera). I know that nothing is going to stop a motivated thief but my objective is to discourage the casual wandering...

Sting nabs sticky-fingered JFK airport workers

Not surprised about this at all. In fact, I've experienced it first hand. Back in 2000 I checked my luggage in at LAX only to find the zippers ripped open and finding things missing from my bag when I got back to BNE. Yes I was young and stupid... locked bag with valuables in it. It wasn't...
