    What happened to macgret?

Well, I only read the first few lines of its first post, and formed a clear opinion that it was a joke of some sort.

Northwest & Delta merger...FF programs unchanged?

No news there then. This is what Robert Crandall had to say about it... Ex-American chief slams mergers, predicts higher prices - SmarterTravel.com. Also, would you want to have anything to do with a merged airline that had over $10 billion in losses in the first quarter of the year...

    Double EQM

No further comments? I'm surprised that our other members of Mileage Plus aren't up in arms about this, missing out on a great opportunity to become Star Gold for next to nothing. With this promo (if you live in the USA) you would get sufficient miles with one transpacific round trip for...

    Travelzoo.com.au

I don't know if most people are aware of this, but Travelzoo recently started a free weekly email newsletter advising of travel deals of interest to people in Australia. You can view / sign-up for it at Travel Deals: Airfare, Holiday Packages, Hotels, and More | Travelzoo. I only mention this...

    Virgin Blue Velocity Status Poll

Well, as a humble "Red", it's all a bit academic to me, but I have amassed the huge sum of 45,000 points, mainly through DJ's CC and phone promos. Now, how best to redeem them?

Thanks for that. Just registered, using my US address of course.

    Transit at DPS... any experiences?

I've transited DPS a few times for the same reason. I don't think there are any practical transit facilties there, although I could be wrong. In my case I once got a transit visa for $25 (I think it was the price) and on other occasions I got a visa on arrival. If this is available for your...

    Renting a car in LA

Sorry to be a party pooper, but I can't see this deal lasting if there is a major run on it. It's the way of the world, and I'm sure you will understand. I do think, however, I should have given you enough clues. It's a uk website and I'm sure you are resourceful enough to find it...

    one way flight

These people are a long-established TA in KL and other Malaysian cities, and have quite good prices Asiatravelmart.com. A useful TA out of BKK is www.traveltech2000.com.

    Priority Pass, just joined.

Well I did the deed, handed over my USD 320 via the Amex link (just as well I have an Amex card), the other 2 links didn't seem to work, probably now out of date. I should get quite a bit of use out of my new Priority pass this year, starting next month with 3 visits to DJ Lounges, and the RCC...

Flight Centre leads charge against fuel surcharges

I don't believe this is the real reason for crude oil being at the current record prices. It is greedy speculators and hedge funds that are going long on oil futures. IMHO, the true value of a barrel of crude oil at the moment is somewhere around USD 75-80, and you may well see the price...

    Priority Pass, just joined.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Based on your comments, I will definitely apply for the Priority Pass "Prestige Membership" today. I am travelling around the world starting on 18 May, so hopefully plenty of time to receive the card. I have been considering whether to join the UA RCC or...

    Renting a car in LA

Well, my mileage certainly does vary. Anyhow, just booked a one-day rental for mid-August, pick up LAX, drop off LAS. Total cost was AUD 45, including the free tankfull of petrol. I don't see how they can make money on this, with sky-high fuel prices. Booked it now to lock in the free...

Northwest & Delta merger...FF programs unchanged?

I think we can expect to see quite a bit of turbulence before this "merger" is completed. The NWA pilots are up in arms about their lack of seniority within the new airline, so expect to see a few fireworks before it's all consumated. All the plums are going to the Delta pilots (that's why...

    Renting a car in LA

Well, I guess I win. My car can go back empty, so that's something like a $40 value. What kind of beer were we talking about?

    Renting a car in LA

It's a good question, and of course, I did purposely leave the name out, so as not to create a rush, and possibly have this excellent deal withdrawn. I will say that it's not an Australian company, possibly European. When I get my case of beer I might be more forthcoming, but I am not telling...

    SQ Increases Services to BNE/MEL/AKL

Just go for the upstairs exit row, or a downstairs bulkhead seat and this won't be a problem.

    Renting a car in LA

I might take that bet on. I quite fancy a few beers, but would be happy to shout if I lose. The company I use for car hire in the USA can provide me with a compact car in LA for approx AUD 45 a day, including all insurances and a tankfull of petrol (what's that worth these days?). How much...

    Travel Insurance with CCs

This is pretty much what I do. I have had to make a claim on the ANZ gold Visa insurance a couple of times, and they paid up without any major quibbles (did take a while though). So I usually just rely on my CC insurance and feel quite secure.

    My 2nd Done

It looks like I may be moving to the dAArkside, because my present FF program, Mileage Plus will likely be gutted following UA's forthcoming takeover (aka "merger") by CO. Thus I am becoming more interested in DONE's, etc, and find this kind of info really useful. Stand by for developments!
