new SYD Lounge opening and V Australia J Class Roadshow

Well no, what it means is that you can have a window seat and only have to climb over 1 person rather than 2. And you'd have to be very unlucky (or not very resourceful) to get the middle seat in the 5-abreast. All of UA's many 777's are configured 2-5-2 and I fly them quite often. Never had...

    Mumbai Intl Terminal

Totally separate as far as the travelling public is concerned. BOM is really not a very nice airport and has draconian security.

    Mumbai Intl Terminal

Have you been to BOM before? If so you would know the layout/procedures. I'm not aware they have changed much over the last couple of years (other than an expanded immigration/customs arrival facility). I have been through BOM a few times over the last year or two (and am going again next...

    Budget airlines to Hawaii

You should be aware that the cheapest fares on HA do not earn any Velocity points. I discovered this recently when flying HNL-LAX.

    New to MP: Some questions

Despite all that has been said, I am a strong advocate of Mileage Plus (being 1K, Million Miler) and it is still an excellent program when compared with the rest. Once you become 1P, you will get 100% miles bonus on all paid UA fares, which is pretty good really. And redeeming your miles...

Pacific Blue to start BNE-POM service (Merged)

I can only echo this sentiment (my wife was an Ausaid consultant there). Do DJ really expect to make money from this route?

    New to MP: Some questions

Miles or Certs are the only way you can upgrade as far as I am aware (apart from purchasing for cash at check-in on an availability basis). I've never heard of "auto upgrades" from B class, but if they do exist they will certainly be behind certs/miles requests, particularly if you are not...

Which is the most generous FF program? American, Qantas, United?

Well, the discussion has (predictably) gone straight to Oneworld (QF, AA), pretty much ignoring all else. I do feel that the OP may well be being steered (by default) in the wrong direction. Given that it seems she will mainly be flying internationally, Qantas does not seen to be so important...

Jetstar in the news - photos of cabin crew in pilot seat

Minus sunnies, of course. Don't know about CASA (bunch of wimps), but don't try this in the USA...

    Economy Plus Annual Membership

You can of course purchase E+ at check in for each flight, for a very reasonable fee (space permitting). This is what I would be doing if I weren't 1K MM.

    Tiger: And the winner is....

I just get this teensie feeling that you hate Tiger (for whatever reason). I'd be willing to bet you havent flown them either.

    US Transit

I've had several entries to the US in one week, they don't seem to mind. Never mentioned the frequency of my visits. On the issue of a short transit, an immigration officer once told me to also write the exit flight no on the I94W. Doesn't do any harm. As for going to Canada from the US, I...

    horror experience with emirates

So am I! We all know that middle eastern airlines (eg Etihad) provide the world's best service. Buyer beware, I say. I have travelled one sector in business class on Emirates on a round the world C class ticket. It was very ordinary indeed, with surly service from Korean FA's, but I didn't...

    QANTAS's domestic sale(s)

Re: Grab a Great Getaway Not that great, really. Just booked DJ PER-MEL in Feb 09 for $149.

Scored an upgrade to business on a points flight

United was happy too. It got an extra $850. Sounds like a good deal all round.

    Renting a car in LA

It's not really that small a place, I would guess at least 150,000 inhabitants, quite big by Australian inland cities standards. And thinking about it, I have a feeling that if I did ring Airline Network I would be greeted by someone from the Sub-Continent. All starts to make sense.

    Renting a car in LA

Thanks for your comments, Dave. I have to say though that I really can't be bothered having to jump through hoops to deal with this company. As mentioned, there are many others which have much better customer service departments, so they have now lost my business for one. If they don't care...
