Re: Jetstar codes Some of those codes and more are explained in this Jetstar document. http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/tradepopup/~/_media/BD05DD0E6216445BA528695ACB44970B.pdf e.g. The following ancillary’s need to be booked through the call centre: For all flights: Excess baggage (xb05...

    OneWorld Round-The-World from AUD$2029

I have bought from them more than once several years ago and don't recall any issues. They were based in WA then.

    Forgettable Airline Meal

My most forgettable meal was the one in QF B767 from WLG back in 1988, because we never tasted it. We were in the front of J and as the plane took off, the food warmer's door opened and as if in slow motion, trays began flying out and dropping our breakfast into the aisles. It was nearly all of...

Elbow bullies - what do you do?

Only once have I encountered an elbow bully - he looked like a sky marshal (had a small carry-on and a book to read), so I bit my lip but he pushed my elbow off the arm rest, so he had mine and the aisle arm rests. Once he had claimed his space, later on he was happy to let me use some of the...

    Emirates J upgrade offer

I have never flown EK and ask how full are their flights. A few years ago, my in-laws flying Y to AKL were given a free upgrade to J in both directions. They rarely flew and had no loyalty cards.

Why won't PAX turn off their mobiles when instructed

Many airlines offer on-board wi-fi but the ones I have looked at disallow Skype and YouTube. I don't know if Skype ports are blocked or whether they just don't want you to chew up the satellite bandwidth -- but someone "on the phone" might be on Skype or similar VoIP app.

    Travelling with 2 passports

I have a variation on this question. I have a NZ and Australian passport. Can I leave Oz for NZ with my Oz passport and land in AKL and show the NZ uruphenua (passport)? I have previously used the NZ passport for the entire journey, but not even AU one way and NZ the other.

Jetstar booked through travel agent - QF FF# never goes through

My weekly MEL-SYD bookings on JQ are made by the client's travel agent but my QF FF# just does not go into the booking. TA has no clue why it isn't happening and JQ counter staff don't have the time to figure it out. So I have to get it done at the counter each time. The Jetstar website also...

    The Operational Upgrade Thread

Booked three of us in PE VA MEL-LAX and Y for the return leg. Got upgraded to J because there is a curtained-off set of three seats between PE and the bar, so they usually look for a party of 3 in PE if they need to op-up. On the way back from MCO to LAX the plane was late and landed at the...

What was your worst ever flight?

The severe UK winter of 1/79 caused my BA flight BOM-SIN to be replaced by a seat on an Alitalia plane. The stewards were having their own party instead of serving us beverages. They were running up and down the aisles taking Polaroid photos of one another! We had to go to the galley and help...

I don't wish to offend anyone but .... [I don't like Qantas using Dubai]

It's been a long time since I have transited DXB but I heard a comment that it's a terrible airport when it comes from getting from one terminal to another and the staff are pretty unhelpful. Is that still the case?

What background are you from and does it factor into your choices of destinations?

Re: What background are you from and does it factor into your choices of destinations Born in India, but left 40 years ago for NZ, became a citizen and automatically lost the Indian one. Then came to Oz 33 years ago and joined the RAAF, so obliged to become an Aussie citizen (dual NZ/AU)...

The thing you hate most about traveling

Lately I seem to sit in front of people whose legs intrude into my foot space and I keep bumping into them. Unresponsive touch screens on QF where you need a hefty push a few times to register and annoy the passenger in front. It's worse when the person behind you decides to play games on it.

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

About five years ago in the UA RCC at LAX I was working on my laptop when I noticed some hubhub near me and a flash going off. Muhammad Ali had arrived with his family some time earlier, as his wife had dozed off by then. Other pax had noticed him and started pestering him for a photo with them...

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Saw Senator Bob Carr in the BA Terraces lounge at JFK on Tuesday. He sat alone in the far corner reading his documents which his minders kept bringing him. Was surprised that he wasn't in some higher class lounge. He flew QF108 up to LAX and presumably all the way to SYD. His group boarded early.

    Mumbai

Main thing to remember that unless your appointments are near your hotel or near one another, transit by taxi is very, very slow, so don't expect more than two appointments per day if one is in SoBo (South Bombay) and the other is in NoBo. Allow at least two hours to travel 20 km. Use taxis...

Deleting cookies/browser history before flight searches

I have had the opposite experience with Webjet. Do a search, then let it expire (~30 minutes?). Then refresh the page. I have sometimes seen a cheaper flight show up.

Premium economy - Qantas vs Air NZ

I agree that SFO is a faster process (depends on airline and what else is arriving at the same time) in general, but I have also had a bad experience with NZ by missing a connection on account of weather. It wasn't the missed flight but the way NZ handled our case - the gate crew basically go...

Don't know but it could be to catch the "Chinese medicine, not food" excuse.

Question 6 in incoming passenger declaration form

I have found it hard to make out the squares and often the overhead light isn't much help. I am guessing that all cards are sent offshore for data entry by humans, not OCR.
