Planning a RTW via Qantas One World

Again it depends where you're starting from and the cost savings of the itinerary. In 2011, I flew to and from Hungary separately because that starting point saved me around $7.5K on my DONE6 itinerary compared with an Aus departure. But there were enormous currency advantages then that aren't...

Planning a RTW via Qantas One World

It really depends on your itinerary. If you've got 12-16 places you want to fly to and stay for a while, it's usually the best value. For 5-6 city itineraries you'll probably find it cheaper to book flights separately. Also business class is usually only a little over double the price of...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

There's no blame to be shifted. Wearing thongs in public is acceptable, obviously. It's not rocket science. If you don't understand that, that is 100% your issue and no-one else's. And you'll continue to project those issues onto others until you sort it out. I'm with you on your alternate...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

It's hard to imagine a more blatant example of an "it's all about me" personality than Joe Bloggs genuinely getting incensed at what others are wearing and complaining about it for years on end. It's not about you Joe. Stop projecting your "it's all about me" personality onto others - it only...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

The new trial rules have nothing to do with safety. If it is determined thongs aren't safe to fly in and they are banned from the plane, I'm all for banning them from the lounge too. Like everything else, the idea of a separate dress code for the pre-flight sitting area and the flight is...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

The RSL isn't a brief sitting area before getting on the train - maybe they should enforce them in train stations too. It's a pretty easy decision. Ban thongs on the plane and it makes perfect sense to ban them in the lounge. But considering everyone is wearing to the lounge whatever they are...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

The technicalities aren't obvious either, even in the extremely unlikely event you hear the rules before arriving. For instance, on topic here, no thongs means this is always fine: This is always out: And this usually bars you from entry, but sometimes you get away with it:

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

Remember these rules only apply in a couple of domestic lounges. The flights people are taking are almost always under 2 hours. It might not be the main privilege paid for but it's certainly one of them. And for the majority of people it is taken away by something that wasn't advertised to them...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

Yeah this is one we have disagreed on for a while. It's interesting the viewpoints. I'm looking at the same little group endlessly complaining about what everyone else is wearing, thinking "what an entitled bunch thinking what others are wearing is about them and they should be able to control...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

It was certainly the entitled brigade that the rules were brought in to appease, no question there. It's hard to imagine a more entitled group than those complaining that what others are wearing affects them and needs to be changed. I think we can all agree on that. As for now, if you know the...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

There's no excuse for anyone reading this thread getting caught out. But it is a nuisance. Gotta remember to wear closed shoes for beach trips to the coast because my airport is one of the 0.01% on the planet where that is a requirement for the pre-flight lounge. That's OK because I'm aware of...

Planning a RTW via Qantas One World

Yep. You can book as many (up to the 16 max) or as little (but including the first flight) as you like and leave the rest open. Alternatively you can book them all and change for free later. The actual cities can't change but the dates are flexible.

Planning a RTW via Qantas One World

You can open date all but the first flight. This is how I did my last DONE6. Then ring up and book the others later when you know plans better. Unless you are an exceptional planner, I'd recommend doing it this way, although you are obviously then vulnerable to not being able to get the dates...

US Visa Waiver Changes: Some Australians no longer able to use US visa waiver program

Re: US Visa Waiver Changes: Some Australians no longer able to use US visa waiver pro I'm OK with those countries. If they add Jordan, Egypt, Libya, UAE or Qatar, it will be a pain. Although as a sidenote, having recently renewed my passport, none of my previous travels appear on it. Do they...

Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

I think the fact this policy isn't enforced in 95% of domestic lounges and 100% of international lounges speaks volumes. It's a token gesture to address the odd complaint about fat blokes in singlets that has become a complete unmitigated shemozzle with no upside possible.

MEL F vs SYD F Lounge

I usually preferred MEL. Food menu usually the same. Wine usually similar. MEL usually quieter and better chance of massage. Views nice at both. I wouldn't bother re-positioning to SYD. It's just the same lounge slightly bigger and usually much more crowded. Unless of course you can get a...

Would you rather fly than drive?

There's a train from SYD-CBR? How have I never heard of this! Would save me plenty if its fast. On the main question, pretty much always prefer to fly, except where its a place I've never been before and want to check out - but even then a few hours driving per day is plenty. No intention of...

    AFF'rs come and go

Over 30,000 posts each for Serfty, JohnK and Markis10. Wow! Doesn't look like anyone else has even broached the 20s. That has to be an enormous chunk of the last decade on here, for which I'm sure many people, myself included, are very thankful. I agree with others that many initially come here...

For those who have been comped status

I got comped SG for this year with 60SCs last year. After soft landing to SG the year before with about 500. So really 2 comps in a row (kind of). The year before was about 2800. Who knows how they work it all out. I think the best approach is not to rely on it but enjoy it if it comes.
