    Flights with TripaDeal

I would have been more accepting about no seat selection if another airline was selected . But we were both Qantas FF Gold flying on a Qantas plane.

    Flights with TripaDeal

Yes I did check at T-80. On the plane there were some empty seats and some seats blocked off.

    Flights with TripaDeal

With limited classic rewards flights being available at the moment I thought I would use 300,000 points to reduce the cost of a Tripadeal package to India for my wife and I. Overall I though the trip was great value. . . but the flights were a big disappointment. We just chose the economy...

Does anyone else find the Qantas app slow?

I find the app works better than the Qantas website.

Good redemption rates for Qantas points?

Last year with lots of points and little chance to redeem, as there was lots of competion for seats, I was happy to spend points on a Trip a Deal Holiday at $0.01 per point. Last month I travelled Melbourne to Timor Leste, return, that worked out at $0.03 per point so that is what I am going to...

Putting elite status bag tag onto carry on. Yay or Nay?

I want a tag on my carry on for when I drop it off in hotels before check in, or leaving it at the hotel when I have a late flight back. If someone gives me a free sturdy tag I will use it as I've added my name and Email using dymo labels. I do have a bit of a bag addiction as I have 5 different...

Personal greetings from the cabin manager - what can you (realistically) ask for?

If you are travelling for a special occasion make sure the flight attendants know. We were on the first leg, Melbourne to Hong Kong ,of our RTW for our 40th Wedding Anniversary back in 2017. As we got off we were handed a bottle of champagne.

Melbourne Airport parking - free upgrade?

A few months ago we were just about to go into the long stay at Melbourne when we were stopped by an employee near the barrier. They just offered us the opportunity to use the multi storey. . . which we quickly accepted. Hasn't happened again!

Article: Reward Seat Release Patterns Have Changed Fundamentally

Over the years I have regularly found good rewards seats at short notice. I am currently in Timor Leste and easily got an economy return from Melbourne for 24,000 points.

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

Currently in Timor Leste and cash (US$) pretty much everywhere even my hotel in Dili only takes cash. Also if you are going beyond Dili make sure you have plenty of coins and low denomination notes. When you are only paying $2-$3 for a meal they find it hard to change anything more than $10!

Why does Sydney Airport need your personal details including date of birth to connect to the wifi?

I gave up using free Wi-Fi in Australia years ago. With my $25 plan I currently have over 600 GB of data rollover. (Perhaps it’s because I don’t watch much video) I actually find that leaving the phone Wi-Fi on is a problem as the phone keeps trying to connect to Wi-Fi’s and slows down.

    Online bidding

I find the Qantas ‘bidding’ a joke. As I have status the only benefits to me are the seat and the meal, if it’s a daytime flight. In a real bidding system I decide how much to bid and if I lose no problem. However the level Qantas sets as the minimum bid is far too close to the actual cost...

SYD->SCL->BOG (return) - question about Santiago transit

I can only assume so. . . . but it was interesting that they did give us all three boarding passes!

SYD->SCL->BOG (return) - question about Santiago transit

It didn't work for me in March. We had an economy flight from Buenos Aires booked through Latam and then on to Melbourne via Auckland Business Class booked through Qantas but flying on Latam. The agent in BA refused to check our bags through so we had to claim them in Santiago and recheck

    Bucket list Restaurants worldwide

One I have visited 25 years ago, and would like to go again, is the Jules Verne Restaurant. It is halfway up the Eiffel Tower. My memory was spectacular food, spectacular view.

Laundry services and experiences while travelling

A multifit sink plug lives in my toilet bag. Only $3.50 (from Bunnings) and paid me back many times over.

    No round the world fares?

I've previously used Roundabout Travel (Australia's Round The World Airfare Specialist) with good success. Round the world has cost around $7,000 business class. Another option I have used is Finnair. You have to fly via Helsinki which does have good links to lots of cities in Europe.

ING Bank Dropping 5 ATM Operator Fee Rebate Benefit from 1/8/23

No worries for us. Since COVID we have found locally, or overseas, between us we don’t need to get Cash more than 3 times a month. Even the Big Issue sellers accept card payments, although some buskers probably miss out!

The care package you get from Qantas when your luggage is delayed overnight

I'm always at risk of cutting myself on the coughpy two blade razors they give you in the shower packs and it looks like the razor in this pack is similar. The Norman Gunston look isn't the best when you are boarding your next flight! For less than $1 they could upgrade to a better disposable...
