Seems like standard inventory management (although that is what married segment logic is essentially) - QF wants X amount of seats to be available/reserved for MEL passengers since they have no direct flight they can take, so they marry the segments.

What are the differences? Weighing this up at the moment - ie. AC with 50k points bonus vs KF gold.

Are you searching for more than one seat? Sometimes only one will be available (so the indicator will show), but if you are searching for more than one it won't have anything to actually show you.

I think what you are referring to as a 'Flight dispatcher' is what we would call an 'Air Traffic Controller' (or ATC for short). Hopefully that might start you in the right direction.

There are reasons on some occasions (such as married sectors, divorced sectors or other forms of inventory management which might apply to a multi-segment flight booking that might not apply to the point to point flight you are searching for), but the agent should at least be able to articulate...

Definitely do not cancel the whole thing. It is very unlikely all seats would come back into inventory if you did. Are you sure it was Hobart that told you that? I don't think it is right firstly, and surprised someone from the Hobart team would say it.

I do understand this - we did an OWA for 3 in J over Dec22-Jan23, although my wife had QF Gold then so that helped to get us out of the country on QF metal. Looking to leave late Nov/very early Dec and come back maybe mid-Jan to try and maximise chances, but alas QF gold will have dropped to...

Agree with this. Maybe agent couldn't make the change or see some of the flights, and helpfully suggested/assumed the 'best' way to make the change was to cancel the whole booking, refund it, and then have the customer rebook themselves?

They have now split the referral links for the Plat card on OZB to 275k and 200k. Before that I had 43 clicks on my referral since late Nov for zero actual referral bonuses, so must be a lot of people hunting for the 275k. Has anyone worked a rhyme or reason as to who gets the 275k on their link?

I think it is correct that they don't pass on tax changes when it is an involuntary change, however it seems unclear whether the previous change was accepted or not - if yes, this is a 'voluntary' change, so would assume taxes payable.

I copped the exact same thing today with QF12 - my (alleged) connecting flight now leaves 5 mins before I am due to arrive from LA. Don't even have an option to accept the change.

There have been some reports about re-booking options being available to select online in MMB after changes, although I haven't had it personally. Otherwise call centre is your only option. Might be the same with the option to cancel a leg or more.

On AA domestic first about a year ago as part of an OWA, we had 7 bags to check and my wife's QF gold (OneWorld Sapphire) was enough to cover the extra bag for free. YMMV

FWIW I am flying a somewhat similar route (CBR/SYD/NAN/YVR) in June on FJ, and the change button is greyed out in MMB and says to call your Qantas office.

Just continuing on this topic, is it still common to find UA J seats up to about 90 days in advance on VA, but not much (if anything) beyond that?
