A similar thing happened to Ms Galah when her SG status expired and dropped back to PS. IIRC she had 3 months of "Qantas Club Silver" after her membership year ended. It sounds like you should have QP access until end of your membership year, at least. Have you previously held SG status...

This was the case previously, but it changed a couple of years ago so you now earn points/SCs even on deep discount O/Q fares with AA. These things change, so it's good to keep an eye when booking. Note: Qatar is another whose discount economy (O class) doesn't earn anything with QF.

Thanks QF029. I made a call when moving here to maintain my QF status instead of shifting to AA, as my flying patterns were more likely to net better results with QF (and they have - I just reached WP on the weekend!). I would've only made Plat with AA (OWS) so it was a good choice for me...

Yes you will earn SCs for the AA marketed flight on AS. Here in the US, the baggage policy that applies to your flight is that of the operating carrier, not marketing (like elsewhere).. so I'm guessing that's why you got stung.
