Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate No need to apologise. This is the natural habitat of the first world whinge :). Hope you enjoy your flight as that's an early SMS no one would mind.

Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

But as stated above they have a much better approach to local produce. The Ballina Ritchie's has a good range of local stuff and it is prominently displayed. Big difference in approach to Coles, the Woolworth and Aldi.

    Uber let-downs

It seems to authorise $1 everytime I use uber and charging to Amex now. Not sure if it did this previously. Here in Australia I find uberx drivers very good during the daytime. Of a night-time and especially weekends the quality deteriorates badly and I now only use black at those times

    MH1 severe turbulence

I've been on a Dash 8 that emergency stopped while taxiing to avoid t boning a catering truck. It was amazing how quickly it came to a stop. Even seated with a seatbelt on the motion of passengers was uncontrolled and quite violent. I imagine if you were standing in the aisle you would have had...

    qantas booking processing time

You shouldn't be worried by the sound of it. Calling probably won't do any good unless it is imminent. Can be overnight or could be a week. I've even had them issue the ticket the day before the flight (3 months after booking). I never realised it wasn't ticketed till the email arrived.

    Best seats economy A380?

48a is good but the door does take a bit of legroom. While it's a bit cramped at boarding it is easy access during the flight and you are off first from economy. 66d is a great seat. Both benefit from having something to put your feet up on while sleeping.

Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Lunch on QF431 today. Beef, mushroom chutney and a bit too much cheese toastie. The lemon curd tart was quite nice. The Heathcote Shiraz as well.

    Oneworld separate ticket interline changes

At the risk of being labelled as a defender of the airline position. I would imagine these changes are only going to impact a very limited number of people.

    Headphones A380 EK Business

Not sure what they are like as I've never found upstairs on the a380 noisy. I'm sure I've worn them to watch movies and they seem quite acceptable for that

    Amex Platinum Reserve Free Flight

You can not use it one year. Then if you call they'll put a note on the system and let you carry it over for a while then book two seats in one go.

Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I've had decent light meals on lunchtime flights between Mel and Syd this year. Probably better than dish of the day in the lounge. No way it is worth the difference in fare though. I hadn't noticed they were north of a grand now.

Hamilton Airport - Who manages this place?

You might be disappointed if you ended up at Hamilton instead of Hamilton Island unless you were a Mooloo supporter

    Finally! Hyatt Regency in Sydney

I hope they do something about the soundproofing between rooms.

What's the point of early check-in

I always OLCI as it's one less thing to do at the airport. With hand luggage only at my local airport I can arrive at the terminal 10 minutes before boarding, pick up my boarding pass and have a chat with the staff. Get a coffee and board. Very enjoyable. I also use the Qantas app on android now...

    Brisbane Lounge Changes

We are going to Narita on the 29th. I guess that will make me an early adopter of the interim system

International carry-on - cast iron teapot?

All you'll need is the camping stove and you'll be able to make a decent cup of tea on-board :). I've had 2 large frying pans in my carry-on domestically and 10 kg stone sculptures internationally and never had a problem.

    Use of hotel minibars

We flutter in the wind according to our whim and the weather. Very occasionally we do have something from the minibar. If we are there for a few days we sometimes replace. Having space for our own things in the fridge is now a factor in choosing a hotel. A hotel in London last year even had the...

    The totally off-topic thread

I quite like the security swab thing these days. Chance to stop and have a quick chat with someone. I'd rather enjoy it than get worked up over it. Don't get me started on people that walk diagonally from the arrival gate to the exit near gate 1 in Sydney though. :)

    Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

Fritz is the name used in south Australia. Devon or Luncheon sausage is the similar product in NSW. Some butchers in SA, in particular the Barossa, make extremely high quality fritz that is definitely worth a try. I have reached the age where rediscovering my youth has become amusing. Hence on...
