    IHG properties in New York

The cabs have a flat rate to JFK from Manhattan. They cannot overcharge you unless you get stung and allow them to rip you off. NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission - RATE OF FARE As for Newark, there is no metrocard option to get you there so you are comparing apples to oranges. A $100 cab fare...

    IHG properties in New York

That is not accurate. The cab fare to JFK from Manhattan is flat which I remember being about $55 (including tolls). You can get to Newark for less than $100. Getting to JFK via public transport is quite annoying. You can get a train out to Queens and then take the airport loop. Either that or...

    IHG properties in New York

As a former resident of NY I would recommend something near Columbus Circle. You will be one 3 train stop from the square and on the park. It is quiet enough for you to get around but also really accessible. If you are looking to stay in NY, ensure you are close to a 3 train stop. It makes life...

    New VA Fare Structure

Cant say I ill miss it that much. I never earned that many points through domestic saver flights anyway. I'm sure it will impact people but my main dealbraker would be a major 'enhancement' to family pooling.

    New VA Fare Structure

I like that I won't have to pay for seat selection now. Can't say I have much to complain about now as I never really used fly ahead.

    Virgin Lounge Food

That's funny as I always look forward to my toasted lounge sandwich. The key is to put a bit of mayo on the ham. Just don't try it on the early flight half awake. I once ended up putting yoghurt on the toastie and it all ended in tears.

    Worse than feet on bulkheads

Yep. Yuck. One of my pet hates. Bring on the footwear policy.

    Velocity Gold to Tokyo

Thanks for this info on Aerotel. Best book in advance? Flying to HND via SIN in a couple of weeks. Another question. Any decent lounges in HND for WP VA flying with Singapore Airlines? The VA website didn't have anything so I might be out of luck.

    Obtaining Silver?

Not sure what you will get from the effort but the best spend per status credit is generally on international multi-sector flexible tickets. Using a return Singapore Airlines flight from any major city to a destination in Asia would probably be enough to get you close to 200 status credits...

    Upgrade waitlist success?

I have never had the waitlist confirm me. Generally when I'm on it I just get the lounge to sort it out before the flight. They seem to have a lot more freedom to get you a seat. VA J often has space, unless you are going on an A330, at which point it seems to be the Hunger Games.

China - never a dull moment!

This is so true but still quite optimistic. Even with a translator on your phone many taxi drivers will not talk to them and just yell at you to get out of the car. Taxi drivers in China are the worst I have ever seen (and I've taken one in Pyongyang). It is worse outside of the Tier 1 cities...

    Flat-bed in premium economy?

The closest I can think of to this is the flatbed on AirAsiaX.

    Virgin Platinum Pointless?

This. Unless VA develops a series of J lounges WP will remain useful but not a great leap up. That being said, I think I would appreciate the four free upgrades, even if they are only on flexi tickets. I also like the partner status with Europcar and Hilton. What would be a good kicker for me...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA1226 BNE-CBR Had chicken and a vegetarian soup options. I went for the chicken and it was very good. Both were equally popular.

    IC Sydney

Not all suites get club access in IC hotels, its a bit silly. The advice you have been given is not always accurate. Some rooms can cause an upgrade to a suite without club access or club access. IC Sydney will sometimes let you choose on arrival. However, you are correct that Virtuoso is the...

Hotel recommendation for London, Paris and New York.

As a former resident of NY I would recommend staying away from the Square. Better off getting a hotel next to a 3 train station. Somewhere like 34th Street W near Penn Station will let you escape from the worst of the mid-town crazy that happens all day every day. It also keeps you near transfer...

Transfer time from Sydney international to Sydney domestic

On tight connections you can ask the customs people (usually in those little vests) to go to the front of the line. I don't know if its a policy but when I have asked nicely and shown my boarding pass they have always moved me to the front.

    IC Sydney

It all depends on your Virtuoso Agent. Some will charge you too much but you can essentially use any of them. Not hard to get one who won't charge much for a hotel booking (they generally really get you with airfares and tours). When I have done it I generally paid $5-$30 more per night through...
