In general changes on business class fares should be fee free - just pay the fare difference. Business fares should also be fully refundable if you cancel, you don't have to accept a flight credit.

QF are clearly moving more and more towards the only real benefit of mid-tier status being lounge access and increased baggage allowance. All the other little niceties of both Gold and WP are gradually being whittled away.

I think if it's the last leg of the booking there won't be an issue. You might run into problems if it wasn't the last leg, then there could be a risk of later legs being cancelled. But if the rest of you check-in and show up at the airport it seems unlikely they'd deny you boarding just because...
