    Velocity/Virgin websites are RUBBISH

Does mobile check-in no longer have the option to find your booking by Velocity number? I have to go via manage bookings?! Mobile check-in's integration with the Velocity system was better than the main website, which could never find my booking, yet apparently now it has somehow fallen behind...

    Virgin Happy Hour [Thursdays]

re: Happy Hour returns Not relevant to happy hour sales, but the map here comparing standard time to solar time is interesting: How much is time wrong around the world? | The poor man's math blog And obviously the solution is to move the arbitrary discontinuity in the timezone from the Tweed...

    Hong Kong on SQ

This thread suggests you might be able to select seats if you can get the SQ booking reference: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/virgin-australia-velocity/va-codeshares-sq-seat-selection-50566.html

"MY BOOKINGS" Looks like it has improved!!

Oh didn't realize, largely because the only time I'm interested in changing my seats is at check-in.

Yep looks like seat selection is back, no longer confined to booking and check-in.

VA T3 security at PER frustration

Not sure if it's still the case, but at BNE, QF requests umbrellas to be put in the tray, while JQ and VA do not. Seems dumb having inconsistencies when they lead to the same secure area...

Virgin Australia’s free Wireless In-flight Entertainment system

I rather like the range of films, it's just a shame that my usual flights are too short to watch in one sitting. Fortunately it's simple and fast to seek to where I left off - much better than most in-seat systems where you have to fast-forward and guess when to press play. The TV shows interest...

Fly ahead - with a fee

If "everyone" is booked on the later flight then that flight will no longer be cheap. It's naturally self-limiting. And I would think that a substantial portion of the savings they may be seeking will be offset by increased time spent in the lounges, and increased numbers of passengers needing...

    Melbourne SkyBus gone up again

Interesting move pricing it higher than the train, sure there's no competition after 10pm but during the day? I guess they're banking on the hotel delivery being the selling point. I see from their price list that Roma St is still $15, but "selected stops" is $20.

Tell me a little bit about Virgin Australia

Actually once online check in opens you can select seats repeatedly without finalizing the check in. As a gold, at booking I usually select in row 7. Then at T-48 I move as far forward as I can (row 4 or 5, depending how busy the flight is). Then at T-24 or later, seats in rows 3 or 4 might open...

    Priority luggage rant

I find it almost always works at BNE domestic, almost never at SYD domestic. The wildly differing experiences here suggest the dominant factor is something other than which airport.

Macy parade, Black Friday, Virgin America Carry on and checked baggage sizes\weight!

Re: Macy parade, Black Friday, Virgin America Carry on and checked baggage sizes\weig I was underwhelmed by the Macy parade, but it's culturally significant so I suppose worth seeing once. I viewed it at Times Square from the same street as my hotel. I gather people also watch the balloon...

Velocity/Virgin - further enhancements to seat selection!

Oh sure for managing shadows some hands-on intervention is probably required. But I'm talking about the front rows more broadly - optimal packing of frequent flyers to the exclusion of the rest should be possible largely without moving people around by hand. And to be clear, I wouldn't choose...

Velocity/Virgin - further enhancements to seat selection!

Suppose the plane turns out to be full. Who would a platinum in row 3 prefer to sit next to - the random last person to check in, or a seasoned gold who was given access at online check-in 48 h earlier? For flights at busy times, locking out lower-tier-but-still-frequent flyers until the very...
