Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

I really question how any international flights into or out of Australia will remain viable for any airline until the situation resolves? - Australian Government is advising its citizens to reconsider all overseas travel - Australian Government is imposing 14 day quarantine on all arrivals...

Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

I assume after NZ Govt's announcement of 14-day self imposed isolation, it would make sense for all airlines, including VA to further cut back on trans-tasmin flights. At some point there has to be a question of whether the Federal Government steps in and provides some kind of financial...

Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

Small anecdote, but since Trans-Tasman is seen as a weak financial point since the end of the Air NZ alliance ... I flew to Auckland return on VA last weekend. I would say both flights were 85% to 90% full. Also flew VA OOL to SYD, and would say that flight was packed (maybe 95% full)!

Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

As much as I don't like it as a passenger, I would imagine that the 787-9 is the best fit for their network. It is a step down in size from the 777 (reducing load risk), while maintaining similar range. I don't know what its economics are short/medium-haul, but presumably better than the current...

Delta buys 20% of LATAM, which will exit oneworld

Delta owns shares in Air France - KLM, and they just partnered with Qantas. Anyway, Delta doesn't own shares in Virgin; so I would think there is limited to no financial benefit to them unless it somehow switches traffic onto the Delta/Virgin transpacific route. LATAM fly direct to/from...

What is Nanshan Group's 'interest' in Virgin?

So Virgin hasn't made a profit for a long time (although hopefully that will turn around). Most of its shareholders are other airlines that presumably derive some other benefit from their ownership - namely, having Virgin's relatively strong domestic Australian presence (both in terms of flights...

Virgin website pricing issues to Auckland?

I just had another play with the website - it is still doing it; not just Sydney to Auckland also on flights from Melbourne and Brisbane to Auckland. Only for Getaway fares. I mean, it does say "Pricing breakdown for individual flights is indicative, please see the shopping cart for the total...

Virgin website pricing issues to Auckland?

OK, maybe I'm going crazy, or its some one off quirk.... but I just priced Sydney - Auckland, return in Economy on the Virgin website. The two flights I selected (outbound and inbound) cost $269.28 and $250.78 each ... however the total listed is only $440.06 (including taxes), instead of...

No more free items from retail menu when flying business

Seems like this whole thing is poorly thought through. Surely they should have business class and economy class catering (being the meal for business and snack for economy as they do now) + a bar/pantry that is the same across both classes with it being free for business and costing $ for...

Etihad codeshare business class using Velocity points - recent seat selection experience ?

I did it last week - the VA booking email includes the Etihad booking reference. You have to call Etihad (rather than do it online), but was pretty simple, the Etihad call centre locked in my seating request with no hassle on my business points booking.

    Ola points to velocity

Open the Ola app ... go into the menu (on android its the 3 lines on the top left), select 'My Profile', then there is an option for Velocity Frequent Flyer account.

VA expects a loss for financial year 2018-19

Why is the HKG expansion a "disaster"? Latest (Feb) loadings by BITRE show they are pretty much achieving similar aircraft loadings to Qantas on the route (88% inbound / 72% outbound). It is to NZ that they are squeezed with loadings 65% - 68% while both Qantas and Air NZ are both above 80%.

    New Velocity website error

For an airlines that has limited capital, why the hell did they need to spend what will likely be millions of dollars on this? The old VFF site was fine - it is the regular Virgin site that needs to be fixed.

Air New Zealand ends alliance with Virgin Australia [goes with Qantas]

Is there a time where VA are better off pulling out of the NZ market completely to put its aircraft on domestic Australian routes? How important is the feed from Air NZ?

    Not impressed with BankWest

Since people are trumpeting ANZ I thought I should say - its not all great. I received a text message saying something to the effect 'A transaction has been declined because you have reached your credit limit'. I immediately went to check what the hell was happening, since I knew I have over...

Air New Zealand ends alliance with Virgin Australia [goes with Qantas]

Perhaps the calculation is that VA will pull out of the NZ market, or remain a minor presence, leaving an increased duopoly between Air NZ and Qantas? Air NZ presumably has far more financial strength to leverage on a fare war; and can dedicate more of their fleet to the market; although...

Air New Zealand ends alliance with Virgin Australia [goes with Qantas]

Wasn't Ansett a member of Star Alliance? That obviously didn't work out too well for them. Would it perhaps make sense for VA to consolidate its NZ focus on Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane to Auckland to provide a viable competitive timetable to Air NZ/Qantas on the largest markets (which both fly...

    Perth - Forgotten again

Just my 2c .... Lets be realistic here. The finance, tertiary education, and government (between Canberra, NSW, VIC and QLD Govts) industries are centered on the east coast. Meanwhile, the mining industry is in decline. Between the three east coast capitals, each within 1.5 to 2.5 hours...

    Tigerair Quits Bali

I can only speculate that their flights to LAX must be performing decently, given they've decided to withdraw from East Coast to Abu Dhabi and redeploy the 777 to MEL-LAX.

Virgin Australia Golds lose LAX lounge access

Just out of curiosity re: T2 /T3 move ... I thought there was also a highly regarded Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in the terminal. Wonder if VA will get access to it beyond passengers travelling on VS.
