Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

QF51D rather than QF51 since it's flying a day late. Not that peculiar, EBA, EBB, EBD, EBK & EBL have all appeared on QF51 this month, some quite frequently.

Jayne Hrdlicka to resign as CEO

Her husband passed away a few months ago and she has two teenage kids. Consider that sometimes personal and/or family life may take precedence.

    Jetstar BNE - KIX Direct

A bit of an explanation: Is Jetstar's A321neo Long Range Qantas's saviour? - Analytic Flying

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

They're not that close. Technically, two EDTO 60 diversion points can be 120 minutes from each other. You've probably flown on aircraft with an unserviceable APU more times than you could count.

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

Actually, yes. The challenge comes in when one of them is not available while being limited to 60 minutes. If Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin, Broome and Denpasar are available, then 60 minute EDTO limitation is fine.

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

Something further to MEL lists is that some elements may be time specific rather than just a no go for ETOPS/EDTO. For example, the B787 has approval from the FAA for 330 minutes and many of the redundancies are built into the aircraft in its standard configuration for that purpose. However, if...

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

Sure, but airports/airlines regularly apply for exceptions to CASA for a variety of things with appropriate motivation and risk assessment. How else does Emirates operate scheduled A380 to BNE then? My suspicion is that BNE has an exception to handle A380 with CAT 9 subject to limits (i.e...

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

Airlines often engage with airports in this regard, not always in the context of ETOPS/EDTO but for other purposes. A few years ago, Delta were keen on Canberra to increase fire service capacity at certain times so that they could use it as an alternate for Sydney. At the time, Canberra didn't...

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

I can safely say that I have read it in its entirety countless times, and passed a few exams on it, and actually prepared flight plans in compliance with it. You're confusing the consideration of including the airport in the operators list of possible EDTO alternates versus using the airport...

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

Not quite - rules may go out the window in an emergency, but they don't go out the window for EDTO flight planning. While RAAF Edinburgh could be used in an emergency it can't be used for EDTO flight planning purposes per CASA EDTO procedures (CAAP 82-1) (when applied to an A330-200). Qantas's...

Does anyone have any idea what QF780 is doing tonight?

Moot point. RAAF Edinburgh does have sufficient firefighting for A330-200. Furthermore, airport isn't 24 hour. From the AIP last updated November 2023:

Qantas upgrades SYD-JNB to A380 service

Tell me, who has? Emirates have 28 still parked or in maintenance. Lufthansa have only managed to get 4 back in service. Singapore have got 10 of 12 back in service, but only thanks to cannibalising the 7 they didn't return to service.

Qatar denied extra capacity into Australia

This sounds a little unhinged. The previous LNP government sat on the previous Qatar request for years, initially granting it temporarily and extending it permanently under duress. Qatar cornered them. Their sudden interest isn't benevolent but rather because they found something that the media...

Qatar denied extra capacity into Australia

Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi national killed by Saudi Arabia. What the hell does it have to do with this? The point is that bilateral air services agreements are part of the global international trade and investment architecture. They don't exist in isolation of this and the broader diplomatic...

Qatar denied extra capacity into Australia

And the same provision applied on the other side, say to Garuda or Batik flying CGK-DPS-SYD.

Qatar denied extra capacity into Australia

Agreed. And included at the behest of Australia. Several of the agreements entered into under the last LNP governments included the "enhanced regional package" (another example is Vietnam). I think they serve a good purpose, but if Australia doesn't put in the appropriate protections to ensure...

Qatar denied extra capacity into Australia

I'm quite amazed at the inuendos being pushed. Anyone who read the Senate report shouldn't be surprised by this. The report details multiple meetings between leaderships of Qantas, Virgin and even Qatar Airways with the Minister and the PM. Hrdlicka met with the PM too, as did a representative...

Turkish Airlines Approved for More Flights into Australia

You're making a range of assumptions regarding revenue management and distribution networks that are stylised towards a normative view of what you want it to be rather than what is actually is. Partnerships are not all or nothing. QF interline with UA and DL, and sell connections on these...

Turkish Airlines Approved for More Flights into Australia

Having spent my career in the business, I'm well aware of it. However, the petty politics at the senior level doesn't often spillover quite as much at the operational level where practicality generally overrides it. For what it's worth, VA have interlines with 35 carriers (according to what my...

Turkish Airlines Approved for More Flights into Australia

Why would VA be pissed? They don't have a JV - they cannot coordinate in any way. QR buy capacity on VA flights and then price that capacity however they wish. VA get the price that's been agreed. If QR don't price it the way VA would want, then they can go and change their price or get a JV...
