I Have Five Days In Egypt - What Do I Do?

Given it’s a short duration, I’d spend 2 days in Cairo and then pick one of either Aswan or Luxor for the rest. Fly down and back. Both offer some great attractions. Note: If you or any of your travel companions is female and under about 40, be prepared for some absolutely flagrant and...

The one that got away [Country I Want to Visit but Can't]

Yeah another vote for Russia here, St Pete’s and Moscow in particular. But it’s a hard no while Putin remains in charge Ditto for Turkey and Erdogan. I also have a bit of a curiosity factor to see North Korea after visiting (but not crossing) the DMZ last year. Again a hard no unless it...

To drink or not to drink

I dont touch the turps in flight. It doesn’t taste very good in that environment and has a dehydrating affect on the body. Prefer to sample things at the destination, specifically trying out whatever is the local speciality. Eg: a local Riesling in Alsace, a Bordeaux in St Emilion, a whisky in...

How long to pack for a trip?

Definitely there’s a big difference between packing for a routine business trip at one end of the scale. Compared against packing for a northern hemisphere ski trip for example, where you’re digging out a bunch of gear and technical equipment that you haven’t looked at for almost a year.

    The Skiers & Snowboarders Thread

Can be hit and miss. Try either Lapland or one of the glacier resorts in Austria The best April skiing on offer anywhere in the world would appear to be Alaska, if you can somehow work that into your travels...

    Flight crew too busy

Might be worth a bit of a straw poll from the forum: How often do you use the call button? In my case I have made around 200 international flights and can only recall using it once. So 1 out of 200 flights. That was for a broken seat in J on Finnair which would not return to upright.

Sydney T3 Security Checkpoint - lost property

House and car keys especially. I can’t think of any reason they would be in your pockets rather than your bag once you’re at the airport.

Sydney T3 Security Checkpoint - lost property

Best advice is to put all loose items into your bag or backpack prior to the security line. Even wristwatch and belt.

    Apple Airtags

This development looks good https://www.executivetraveller.com/news/apple-qantas-airtag-lost-luggage Now it’s about to get easier to track down a piece of lost luggage, with airlines and airports joining the hunt using the AirTag’s real-time location finding tech. Apple is working with Qantas...

Sadly no. I'm still not sure if the OP is in on the joke, or if this was originally intended as a serious thread. My Monty Python side is hoping the former!

You rang the airport to ask if the airline provides metal knives for the meal service? Sounds like a good way to end up on some sort of watchlist!

Is Aussie Aussie Aussie an Appropriate Call in 2024?

Yeah I'll admit to finding it cringeworthy, but I wouldn't say "inappropriate", if by that you mean offensifve. It's not designed to cause offence, but more used as a form of barracking, similar to Forza Italia I guess. I imagine quite a lot of other countries have something similar eg: "Slava...

Article: The Surprising European Flight Delay Trend

Ok that's interesting. So in theory at least, Airline B could "land" within the 2 hour window, but spend 30 minutes waiting for their gate because Airline A is late departing, or perhaps the airport can't find an available gate. That would mean that Airline B is required to compensate PAX...

Article: The Surprising European Flight Delay Trend

Out of interest, does anyone know how they define the arrival time? Is it based on when PAX disembark, or is it when the plane lands, literally rubber hits the runway? At certain times at some airports it can be a 30 minute difference.

    AFR's Joe Aston goes BAM!

"customer"? Joyce allegedly gave the public official in charge of regulating his business, 22 solicited upgrades. (again I would add the caveat: if the allegations are accurate) In my line of work, we are required to report any such requests from public officials (both domestic and...

    AFR's Joe Aston goes BAM!

I think you're splitting hairs here. Banks already do offer interest rate discounts for loyalty or high value customers (eg: private bank clients) based on qualifying criteria. That qualifying criteria does not include being a government minister and putting the hard word on the CEO. If the...
