Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

We are booked on Viking Amsterdam to Budapest river cruise fo April 2023. Has anyone got any knowledge of how well these cruises are currently operating and whether there is any risk posed in about April 2023?

Solar Panel, Power & Battery Discussion

Thank the climate activists for that! And the crazy Victorian government is forcing the early closure of Loy Yang! Victorian’s will pay dearly for that. Let’s hope that the wind keeps blowing and the sun shines bright in the future, albeit we are in for one of the coldest Summers for many years...

Solar Panel, Power & Battery Discussion

Interesting, it cost us $30,000 for 6.2Kw in South Australia in 2011 but it just cost me $15,000 for 19.25Kw today.

Solar Panel, Power & Battery Discussion

The only way to achieve a quick return on solar is to install about 20Kw of panels and push 15KW into the grid using 3 phase; then you should be able to repay the cost in about 4-5 years.

50% off new one-year Qantas Club memberships (11-17 October 22)

Tried to renew my membership with this 50% off offer but had to close my Corporate membership (which I pay) first (losing 2 months). I have now renewed for 12 months and will restart my Corporate membership when this runs out in 12 months. IMO it’s very worthwhile.

VA calling boarding in lounge when it hasn’t started yet

I always wait in the lounge until I see that boarding has commenced. I have often waited until last minute and been called - a bit embarrassing!

Calling for volunteers to take a later flight (and pocket $2,700)

Absolutely, that airline would get my attention.

Flying? Isn't that what the birds do? Not for humans that want to get into Qld or WA!

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

The only Shiraz to buy are those from McLaren Vale as most others are inferior IMO and the best place to get the best wine deals is from Skye Cellars in SA. As a member the special deals they offer are amazing. Just bought their latest 'Thank you' offer of $300+ per dozen for just $100 for...

Bonus 1,000 Qantas points, 15 status credits or $20 flight voucher if fully vaccinated against COVID-19

I took up the 1000 points offer for wife and myself. Too easy as we were vaccinated in March and June.

How do you store your wine [+ Fridge/Cabinet recommendations]

Mine is a 1M wide x 5M long x 2M deep pit in my garage fitted with 2 off 5M x 2M pieces of reo mesh that have spaces just the size of a champagne bottle diameter. The reo is spaced 3/4 of a bottle height and it holds 600 bottles. The pit/cellar is covered with 50mm thick timber slats. Currently...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

NSW really have been and continue to be "The Gold Standard" in managing this pandemic. Just wish Qld and SA governments had the same competence as Gladys - so many business would still be alive instead of left to die.

How do you store your wine [+ Fridge/Cabinet recommendations]

My collection of about 600 bottles (mostly McLaren Vale) Shiraz with 10 years cellaring potential (I buy nothing else) is stored in a disused car maintenance pit in my garage. It is about 2M deep x 1M wide x 6M long with two carefully spaced reo' mesh sheets on one wall which the bottle just fit...

Are you Going to use the COVIDsafe App?

I have downloaded the App and make sure it's on every time I leave the house. Even if it hasn't been as useful as first thought it is no imposition and who knows, it may just provide vital information when needed some time in the future.
