I haven't stayed at all the Novotels in Melbourne (there's so many!) but breakfast at the South Wharf and the Central are both very good, with Central being a bit better. Also, Central has a better location as well.

I'm curious to see what the other Velocity card offering will be, replacing the one with no annual fee (Escape I think it was called?). If you're already an AmEx customer it might be worth having just to get the extra points earn on your flights (under the new scheme) for holding a co-branded card.

I'm not sure how much of restraint Velocity has been on QF devaluing the program. I think Qantas' key takeaway from the Alan Joyce era was that it didn't matter how badly they treated the customers, they'd keep coming back for more.
