Anyone else had an overseas speeding fine arrive in the mail?

My former housemate did receive a speeding fine from Italy as well. I dutifully forwarded it on to him, and the subsequent follow up letters, then the letter from the Australian debt collection agency that they'd passed it on to as well.

Article: Public Servants Spent $1 Million More on Flights During Double Qantas Status Credits

Given the size of the APS (~194,500, excluding active service military and non-APS entities) and the need for the geographic distribution of the service (only 36% are based in the ACT), that amount seems quite low, just $25.70 per employee. Obviously travel costs aren't incurred like that, but...

Virgin 737-8 Max Business Class - No Divider

One thing I've learnt over the years is that people on the VA forum here will complain about everything. Virgin could start gold plating the boarding passes and people would be on here loudly declaring that the dazzle from it hurts their eyes!

VA562 misses Sydney curfew but lines up for approach anyway

There's a list of the exemptions on the DoT's website: https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/infrastructure-transport-vehicles/aviation/aviation-safety/aircraft-noise/airport-curfews/sydney/overview I have been on a delayed flight that took advantage of this exemption and took off a few minutes...

VA562 misses Sydney curfew but lines up for approach anyway

I take this flight fairly regularly and while I haven't missed the curfew yet, I've been on flights that have come very close. I'm taking it next week and it's always top of my mind that if we get delayed we might not take off or might not end up in Sydney. At least once WSI opens up there'll...

How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

I've found the Sebel Civic to be fine, though it's serviced apartments rather than a hotel. So no restaurant but much larger rooms, a kitchenette in the room and it's in a great location. Reception does close at 10pm though, so if you need to check in late you have to call security and access a...

Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

Looks like this account is now in its last days: https://www.bankwest.com.au/bank-accounts/qantas-rewards I've noticed that AMP has now announced a new transaction account that earns Qantas points, don't know if the end of the Bankwest account and the creation of the AMP product are linked.

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

Well, yes, you are. And we're entitled to discuss if your views on this topic are accurate or should be taken seriously. I think the consensus is in...

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

Why is it that you've kept flying VA? You're a prolific poster on this forum and always furiously denigrating VA and yet, despite your complaining stretching back years, you've kept flying them enough to (supposedly) maintain Platinum. If you are flying VA enough to maintain Platinum then you...

Article: The problems with Virgin Australia codeshare bookings

Buried in amongst all the docs submitted to the ACCC for the Qatar deal is this little nugget that, at least partly, explains the price disparity: Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways - Response to interested party submissions (page 7) So under the SQ arrangement it's pretty obvious that VA is...

I've been wondering that too, for quite some time.

    Goodwill upgrade to Platinum?

On the upside, at least you've got the rolling status qualification period, so it's not like Qantas where you suddenly get reset to zero. As long as you've still got 1000 status credits in the past twelve months you could just take another flight to hit the eight sectors and you'd go up to Platinum.

Qantas' Impending Change to Tokyo Flight Schedule

My point is more that if that really is so simple or that's their plan, why haven't they just done that? Why leave it to the day before to make the change when every day that passes more people will be making connecting booking for dates over the next year that'll all have to be rebooked (or...

Qantas' Impending Change to Tokyo Flight Schedule

If they were planning on doing something as simple as swapping the airport over, you'd think they'd have done it by now. It'll cause disruption to people with connections and so more lead time to sort it out would be better. Unless they're trying to exhaust every other option before resorting...

Qantas' Impending Change to Tokyo Flight Schedule

They may have applied for these slots without a plan on how to resource them. They're currently having to wet leasing plans from Finnair so they obviously don't have enough, so they may have found themselves in a position of not having enough planes and crew. That means if they want to keep...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, a lot of the responses in this thread are really wishful thinking. Hoping that this will be such a disaster that Virgin will either be forced to back out or will collapse entirely. I'm sure they'll lose some customers over this, but I think the...

Uber drivers at CNS routinely cancelling rides to manipulate surge pricing

I've noticed I can't get Didi from CBR either. No issues getting one to the airport, just can't get one from the airport.

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

I guess it depends on if you think of Qantas and Jetstar as two separate carriers or one carrier with two separate paint jobs. I'd note that even Qantas group don't seem too certain about which it is, changing their mind depending on the situation.

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Looking at the ACCC report from Feb 2025 in Dec 2024 Virgin's domestic market share overtook Qantas and they became the largest domestic carrier by market share, a 3.1% increase since July (pages iv and v). Looking at the historic market share graph (page 18), you can see that this is the first...
