If it is not a saver level award seat, it will not be available to partners.

    AA72 SYD-LAX check-in quesitons

Yes looked like it changed at the start of 2024.

    AA72 SYD-LAX check-in quesitons

I'm sure we would. The removal of it from the T&Cs wouldn't fill me with confidence about its longevity, though apparently the language has been removed for at least a year.

    AA72 SYD-LAX check-in quesitons

I remember that being the case, but it is interesting that they've removed all mention of this access as an explicit benefit in the T&Cs. Now it merely says: '10.6 Entry to Partner Lounges is subject to the individual lounge operator's entry conditions and space availability. The restriction...

    AA72 SYD-LAX check-in quesitons

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. I thought you always had to be on a QF/JQ flight number. Is that an official or unofficial exception?

    AA72 SYD-LAX check-in quesitons

Are you aware you won't have lounge access based on cabin or status or Qantas Club membership?

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Important to note that Qantas surcharges will be very similar once the devaluation kicks in. The days of low surcharge award tickets are basically over for the majority of Australian points collectors.

AMEX suspend my Platinum Charge Card

Depends on if you have the income/funds to support $100K charges. Outcomes range from card completely unsuspended through card unsuspended with spending limits imposed to complete shut down of all Amex accounts.

AMEX suspend my Platinum Charge Card

Sounds like a financial review. Quite common if you spend well in excess of your typical charging pattern with Amex. They're mainly interested in working out if you have the income/assets to pay off the balance. General advice is to pay down the balance as soon as possible and then provide bank...

Who is going to the USA, who has changed their travel and what will you do differently?

No change. If anything, the situation is improving for me. Weakening AUD makes my USD churning activities all the more valuable. A softening of demand will open up more award seats and points availability at hotels.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Will be interesting to see how easy it will be for people to get upgraded to business on points. If they come through relatively easily, that will mark a big point of departure from Qantas, where even Platinums can sometimes struggle to get points upgrades on flights to Europe.

    Buying Qatar Avios

Etihad and Emirates probably offer the most award seats to their own members (and have less competition for seats than Qatar), but they also have higher prices and, in Etihad's case, far worse cancellation policies.

    Upcoming Award Flight Tsunami?

Too early to tell. If we get a global recession where business travel craters & personal travel also drops due to job losses, we'll see a flood of award seats and bargain cash fares, similar to what occurred in the GFC. However, if it turns out to be a minor blip or most governments prop up...

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

$260K of spend on this card offers an abysmally low return on spend. I'd look into churning credit cards if you and your wife can stomach swapping out cards once every month or two. Even with $260K spend on this card, you're not going to have enough points to fly 5x pax return to Europe even in...

MCT in Dubai / Thoughts on this connection

Doing the same next month. I'm not bothered as heading onto LHR and will be reaccommodated on a later flight if I miss the connection and I'm not in an urgent rush to get to my end destination if delayed, even by a day. Main annoyance will be missing out on a shower in the lounge.

    Airfares to US to drop?

'Foreign arrivals into major U.S. airports tumbled in mid-to-late March compared to the same time last year, based on customs pass-through data.' https://www.axios.com/2025/04/04/foreign-visits-american-airports-travel-warnings

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

That's a huge factor in many people's views, including many on this thread. It's why people will shop on price between Woolworths and Coles, but never consider Aldi. It's why people will shop on home loan rate between the Big 4, but never consider a local credit union. And so on. Market...

    United to Fly to Adelaide

I'm seeing $3.1K for peak travel December dates (mid December to end December). That's pretty much in line with what you'd expect to pay to the US over Christmas. And non-stop will always command a premium over 1 stop, which is all the competition can offer.

Anyone had recent success with reward bookings flying China Airlines?

They no longer release 2 seats in J on most medium- to long-haul flights. 1 only.
