Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

I like to grow out my beard when travelling, but if it gets too bushy I seem to have issues with the smart gate. I also can't see jack when I take my glasses off o_O

Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

Here's a couple of recent data points on processing times. I submitted mine, a basic renewal, on Friday the 21st July, received email to say it was on its way on the Thursday the 27th July. Received in the post early the following week. My partner's was submitted at the same time but was not a...

    ANA partnership with Virgin Australia

I just successfully added my VFF number to an upcoming NH flight. I used the mobile version of the website clicked through via the link from the reservation email. Dunno if that matters but it didn't work a week ago on the desktop website.

    The world's stingiest airport lounge?

Haha when I read the post title the ALA lounge was the exact lounge that came to mind. Visited it in 2018 flying on Asiana - there was a sign at the buffet saying we weren't allowed access but nobody was policing it. I think we smuggled in booze from outside. Terrible lounge.

    Sydney Airport- A National Disgrace

and no lounges since Covid or was that since CX left?? Departing CNS internationally is sad these days, I don't want to ride an SQ 737-8 for 6+ hours to SIN or JQ to NRT/KIX. Although the inner AVGeek in me might consider a PX F70 to POM then a 767 to HKG :p Edit - forgot the terrible VA HND...

    Sydney Airport- A National Disgrace

I am curious how/why you were denied a ride on the T-bus? Seems wrong to me, we've always just hopped on with no questions asked.

    ANA partnership with Virgin Australia

Just tried to add my Velocity number to an existing ANA booking. Velocity now appears in the list but I get an error message: We were unable to verify your mileage number. If you have recently registered as a new member, it may take some time for your registration to be processed, so please...

Domestic Security Body Scanners - Bad for Women?

OTT security theatre :(. You'd think if they have an unusually high rate of false positives on a certain demographic (eg. middle-aged women) they could re-calibrate or adjust the sensitivity for those particular body shapes. Off topic - I've also been having plenty of fun with the newer bag CT...

Article: Saudia’s Cheap Business Fares Between Asia & Europe

The irony is I would be somewhat willing to put up with the average service and transit experience for a cheap flatbed - IF I could also enjoy a few beverages to relax me :p

Tokyo Haneda slot - How will Virgin Operate it? [CNS-HND flights ceased Feb '25]

Had a few recent chats with normies asking for advice about trips to Japan and this VA option. For your average non-FF there is typically very little knowledge (and care factor?) about aircraft types and HND vs NRT. For them it probably comes more down to price and/or convenience of direct...

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

Sorry, I meant UK visitors to Vietnam

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

Indeed, the VOA requires an approval letter that you apply for online (dare I say electronically??) so offering both this and an e-visa is quite confusing for first time tourists to Vietnam. Would be great if they could offer the e-visa for multi trips and trips > 1 month. Of course, even better...

    Giro d'...toddler?

Interesting TR so far, enjoying this as we have also recently done a few J flights with an infant/ almost toddler and it can be quite trying at times. Going to squeeze in one last go on the lap before she turns 2 later this year with some sale flights to HND on ANA J. After that I am at a loss...

$100 off return Qantas flights to QLD (book by 19 May 2023)

I was about to pull the trigger on some flights when they killed the sale. Complained via the feedback form and surprisingly got a timely reply a few hours later advising they'd sold out of promo seats and gave me 5000 points as a gesture of goodwill.

Bamboo Airways $4228 to Europe J

Are they a LCC? Perhaps a hybrid a la VA? They're definitely a step up from the likes of Vietjet Air, AirAsiaX, Scoot et al. Can't comment on their Y but flew recently in J SYD-SGN-SYD. Their 787 has a pretty decent hard product with 1-2-1 reverse herringbone flatbeds. Service was a bit patchy...

ANA SYD/BNE-HND++ Business Return from $3,176

Nice fare, we're looking at booking something in November and as above am hoping the VA / NH partnership starts before then so can credit to VA. As a bonus these fares include a free NH dom connection in Y but the evening arrival of NH890 probably means a night layover in Tokyo. Likewise back...

    Rydges Sydney Airport

That check in machine is terrible - last month I used it because the human staff were busy and it put us on level 3 when I had booked a runway view room. I waited for a human and she straight up said the machine is cough and does weird stuff. No brekky charge though so probably not machine...

Minimum time for Domestic to International transfer at Sydney - Separate Tickets

I agree with the posts above, you could get lucky but I also wouldn't risk it under 4 hours. A delayed inbound flight could really screw you over. So unfortunately you may have to take that extra day / half day leave for peace of mind. Doing the transfer the other way around a few weeks back...

What's the most obscure airport you've visited?

Been to a few weird ones in the developing world but for some reason TRR seemed to pop into my mind when I saw this thread. TRR - China Bay Airport near Trincomalee in NE Sri Lanka. ~2013, so not too long after the civil war ended and tourism in the Tamil areas was still in its infancy. The Sri...
