Airports absurdly close to the city

We walked from downtown Nukus, Uzbekistan to the airport, was prob less than 2km. Is it a city though? 330k people and Uzbek's 6th largest city according to Wiki, but felt very small.

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

Flew on a newish AI 787 10 years ago from DEL to DME, the cabin interior was in a shocking state; torn upholstery, faulty reading lights, AV inop, all surfaces filthy. I remember saying to my wife that I hope their maintenance program is good where it matters most!

Anyone else had an overseas speeding fine arrive in the mail?

About 20 years ago I copped a fine for doing 20mph over the limit in some nothing town in the Arizonan desert, between Williams and the Grand Canyon. 'Twas a town so small I didn't even see it. Pulled over by the classic motorbike small town sheriff with big mirror aviator sunnies, and kinda a...

What's your tip(s) for surviving the cesspool of Hotel booking websites?

You are right to be wary. We stayed at the Timor Plaza hotel last June. Used booking.com for a good cash back deal but the pay at property thing got us. Their credit card machine was down or at least not working for our range of cards. Cash from the ATM in the carpark was the solution.

Article: 6 Things Stopping Me Flying Air New Zealand More

Yep just like QFlink's monopoly on some Aussie regional routes. Often not practical to book a long way out for work trips.

They've oversold our cruise! And we got the offer!

    No change. Keep balcony.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

I agree, not sure what it is exactly but I went on a few recently in French Polynesia, sat mid cabin but it definitely felt more cramped and dark than the Dash 8.

    LAX vs SFO

Arrived in SFO a few months ago in the late afternoon and there was no queue at immigration. Haven't been through LAX in 10 years though so can't compare.

Unique airport lounge features & services

On this theme I was also amused by the self pouring beer machines in the OZ lounges in Incheon a few years back. It filled through a valve in the bottom of the cup. But then I'd have to manually pour into a glass rather than drink from plastic so I guess was kind of pointless. Enjoyed a couple...

Who to escalate a complaint to when your tour is not as described?

Savannahlander? Their website says the damaged bridge near Forsayth is not even excepted to open in 2025. 😢

Unable to book SYD-HNL with Hawaiian

So hit and miss. I had success adding it at the airport in HNL for two flights, one agent told me it was under VA in the list so wasnt obvious for her to find. I tried adding it a previous time using the Hawaiian Web chat and they said they'd done it but nothing ever posted. 🤷‍♂️

    SQ Y+ vs Scootplus

Flew scoot once many years ago to OOL. They were food naz_s on that flight. Got told off for opening a small bag of crisps. Lady behind us asked for hot water for her own noodle bowl and when they said no way she asked to buy a cup of tea without the tea bag! Scoot was very new at the time...

    Brisbane Premium Lounge Entry

You get escorted by security out the back to a lift next to a loading dock. You then go up a level in the lift, through some doors and pop out into the terminal past where the lounge exit is and enter the lounge via the main entry. Annoying.

Jetstar nonstop services between Australia and the Cook Islands

Wonder what the loads are like on the 2:15am NZ947 flights? I guess it could be good for picking up connections out of AKL, but a 4 hour red eye on an all Y A320 sounds brutal. I would rather get the daytime NZ945 on a 787/777 and stay in a hotel if going via AKL. Guess those weird NZ947 flights...

    Obtaining a visa for Chile

They really need to ditch this visa. I understand the reciprocity politics but jeez it's annoying enough to turn some people off going there. We've been lucky and avoided paying on both our trips to Chile. Last one in 2017 we flew in from Tahiti to Easter island and then domestic into SCL. Time...

What’s the deal with my involuntary downgrade?

Thanks Henrus, apparently they weren't offered anything. Should have at least got some food vouchers. SIL didn't want to make a fuss but had to entertain 2 youngsters for 5 hours and had no lounge access without my brother travelling with her. Guess they bump the non status low value pax?

What’s the deal with my involuntary downgrade?

Hi Henrus, perhaps you can shed some light on this one: my SIL was supposed to fly on VA375 today and at the airport was told it was cancelled and she has been moved to a later flight. Yet flightradar shows a QQ F70 operating VA375, currently in the air over Yeppoon. Did they lie to my SIL about...
