While the QF program is not great, VA is worse. QF does offer upgrades on their own metal for international, but the lowest fare buckets can not be upgraded. Chances are, even if you paid full fare, you might still not get upgraded so its better to pay cash fare or make an outright redemption...

Fwiw CI historically has a much worse safety record than chinese carriers, or most carriers around the world for that matter. Its becoming better these days but you do wonder if the factors behind those accidents have been resolved or its a matter of luck.

They simply offer a cheaper and more compelling product that people overlook due to “loyalty” and “pride” with flying QF.

They need to reduce the fee for plat charge to 600 - 700 to make the card worthwhile. It doesnt help that there is no clarity on the spg/marriott status and hilton status can be gotten for free with macquarie

In the end it comes down to: do you want to pay 4 cents / point? There are much cheaper ways to earn QF points.

Good change but only if they run more than 2 daily 737 flights on routes like syd-akl.... Not sure i want to pay 50% more what i can get on QF, the latter at least run 2x WB on the route..

I've only ever seen it in Japan where rooms can be 50% more expensive with double occupancy in a double room (without breakfast). I hear its prevalent in EU as well.
