    FIFO Apprentice pay rate

I spent nearly 20 years in FIFO, my experience is that it’s rare for the catering to be done by the Mining companies and therefore you’d be employed by a contracting company. The contractors pay rates have zero to do with the mining company. My best advice, do your best at the interview, sell...

Sydney to Reykjavík Iceland or Oslo June July 2020

I concur with the Finnair Lounge recommendation. Terminal 2 above gate 22. Very nice lounge indeed.

    P1 = $XX,xx_ spend - ($xx_ xmas champas + $XX gala event + "bragging rights" + phone number)

I’m currently on the way down to LTG from P1. I simply won’t be flying much anymore and LTG was my goal, so I’d at least have lounge access when I do fly in the future. I’ve had a couple of good experiences as a P1 that I won’t recount here, but I’ve written about them elsewhere on AFF. I got...

Sydney to Reykjavík Iceland or Oslo June July 2020

If you do manage to get to, say, within 3 hrs flying of Reykjavík I would HIGHLY recommend NOT burning points on J. European short haul business class is generally very poor. Think 3 across 737 Y with the middle seat blocked. I’m in the middle of a One World QF J 280000 point redemption and all...

Vent - QF call centre incompetence

Call me old fashioned but have you called Qatar yourself? What have ya got to lose? Hopefully it works out to your satisfaction, I’m booked in a Qsuite myself shortly on a OWA, so your case is a bit of a “lab rat” for me if mine goes wrong. My leg is Doha to HKG Qatar are apparently well...

Qantas we need you [to service Cairns Internationally]

You’re right about the choice of where some of us live. An airline, however , isn’t one of the amenities I expect. It’s a private business. Government services, roads, general Tax dollar bought services that regional areas often ( excessively) disproportionately contribute to per capital is...

Here is British Airways’ all-new Club World business class.

Well, we’ve completed both our CX 773 J and BA 350-1000 J legs. I preferred the Cathay seat while Mrs BD preferred BA. My thoughts on the BA 350-1000 seat were that it just felt smaller, very private though and the centre seats on both carriers are fine for couples. I found the BA cabin...

    What's your Uber experience?

It, of course, also depends where you’re driving. Not everyone in Australia lives in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane. The other companies aren’t prevalent even in my city of Townsville. Which means nor are the customers.

Hong Kong Airport - Which Lounge to use ?

Yes , definitely the one on the lower level. The girl at the info desk told me they only go one way and I’d have to walk back. Which really wasn’t far.

Hong Kong Airport - Which Lounge to use ?

Have just done a very quick lounge hop from 0700 to 1000 local HK time. For me , The Pier is the pick if you’re OWE. Just a fair bit easier on the eye. I found the Wing very dark in decor, difficult to see but I did like the champagne bar 😇. Both top quality lounges though. The Wing is the...

    Premature status renewals

So you've returned to the fold. Grass wasn't greener or did you just not fly as much in the last couple of years? I'm interested to know if you did "crossover" for a little and now have come back, and why if applicable.

    Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Well, I just had a rude awakening at 0130 to say that myself and Mrs BD's flight ex TSV-BNE this morning had been bumped backwards 2.5Hrs. Resulting in a missed connection to HKG and other nasty flow-on effects after that. Straight onto the P1 batphone and Gay from the P1 team had it all sorted...

Here is British Airways’ all-new Club World business class.

Myself and Mrs BD are on BA92 YYZ to LHR J shortly. I shall have a crack at a review. The flight before that is J CX HKG to YYZ, 2 weeks prior. Should be an interesting comparison - both in centre seats, SWMBO won't have us sitting line astern so I have to sacrifice the view.

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

For those of us into cricket, this man is a legend. Was instrumental, along with Alan Border, in building a side that developed into an incredibly successful era for Australian cricket. I don't care how many tins he drank, but I will never forget the fortitude he showed against the West Indies...

    Ask The Pilot

Yep - every time I heard it I automatically went into academic engineer mode. Who reviewed it? Against what benchmarks? What standards? Blah blah...……... Your comment about how can you come up with anything better is the crux of it for me. I was never a big fan of the " Continuous...

    Ask The Pilot

I regularly got "Worlds' Best Practice" rammed down my neck in the mining game. Doesn't mean it's not mind-bendingly stupid though does it!!

Why do we hold unreal expectations of Qantas??

I don't disagree with you in the main, but I have very strong views on what and why businesses "promote" re agendas. This thread, however, isn't the place for that discussion

Why do we hold unreal expectations of Qantas??

Is your opinion the same for the multitude of other multi-nationals that do likewise? Not the least of which are the procession of car manufacturers who then treated us like the suckers we are. And don't start me on Darwin Port.
