Domestic flying in Japan, my observations & experiences

Japan is the home of the bento and the one cup sake. Lack of inflight service is a feature not a bug.

Qantas double status credits OR double points offer [book 23-28 March 2023]

I’m still waiting for a bunch from early May, a ways to go until the 8 weeks are done.

    Earliest Qantas Haneda Check-In Time?

This is the way to travel. I also highly recommend shipping a mixed case of sake to the airport to max out your luggage allowance. Kimijimaya in Ebisu station were very helpful in this regard.

Qantas to Introduce Group Boarding and Bag Tracking

Bag tracking - I have no desire to know that I haven’t got my bag with me until I get to the end of the trip. Sure I’d love not to stand around belt unnecessarily, but until then there is absolute nothing I can do about it. Group boarding - waste of time that is designed around monetising...

Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I slept from wheels up to 30mins to landing. The breakfast trolley was coming by when I woke and managed to grab a coffee and some kind of Indonesian breakfast pastry, a sort of deep fried empanda with a spring roll filling. A good snack to get me as far as the lounge and connecting flight to...

I got an involuntary flight change and this is what happened…

Well yes, also I wouldn’t have got a good night’s sleep without knowing my trip home was going to work. Adding to the stress was the fact I had a CGK-SYD-MEL ticket on a separate booking to catch.

I got an involuntary flight change and this is what happened…

Saturday afternoon I’m on the train south from Yorkshire and check into my LGW-DOH-CGK flights (BA and QR sold as QR). After check in I notice that BA2033 is delayed by a little under 2 hrs. I chat with BA and they say it’s still within the MCT. By the time I get back to London it’s now over 3...

Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Cover kale in butter and garlic and it’s great (TBF cover anything in butter and garlic and it’s great) Tonight (May22) CGK-MEL. No review though, I’m going straight to sleep.

Has anyone used booking.com for flights?

I think I wrote it on another thread, however if you access booking.com from the BA shopping portal you can get 8avios/£ on hotels, which keeps me topped up on QF flights.

    Rocketmiles - anyone used?

Note the rates are often not the cheapest available and no, you won’t get an Australian tax invoice. Booking.com currently earns 8 Avios/£ on hotel stays through the BA shopping portal. You can pay at the property and get a tax invoice there, plus access the same rates as everyone else. Not...

Has anyone used booking.com for flights?

I have used booking.com and other online TAs to get itineraries that aren’t achievable on airline websites, or to use things like Amex points as cash. eg. Some JAL itineraries with Tokyo stops are hard to achieve with the JAL booking engine but booking.com or Expedia. I expect them to be...

The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

It’s on Audible, although i have to say I have US audible so YMMV. there are two readers and I prefer Patrick Tull to the other one, but its very subjective.

The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

I know I have griped about this before, probably in this thread, however I just flew GOT-LHR with BA this morning. Boarding pass nicely showing on the Lock Screen when I woke up to get to the airport. I did AY LHR-HEL-ARN as well and the right board as was always available at the right time. No...

    Do interline priority bags work?

If the second airline is JAL, it works, every port, every time. (Datapoints are AY to JAL, QF to JAL, AF to JAL), obviously jal only works as well. If you take too much time at Tokyo immigration then the priority bags will be taken off the belt and lined up in order of status.

What do you do with the amenity kit?

This seems like an excellent idea.

What do you do with the amenity kit?

Mostly I leave them unopened or hand them back. I always bring everything I need in flight and don’t like the waste. If I have need for the pouch I will keep it. I’m very annoyed I just lost a Finnair one which was the perfect size for my cables and I carelessly mislaid.

Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Today 6/5 QF41 SYD CGK Absolutely top notch crew, very well lead by CSM Andrew. I could tell I was in for a good flight when I went to the bathroom shortly after takeoff and one of the crew was trying to smooth the creases out of the tablecloths to make them more presentable. Everyone did a...

What is the greatest airline lounge in the world?

I’d be keen to check out the sake scene in KUL, Singapore I have sampled but would be good to see what you guys have. I know of a couple of QF cabin crew who come to sake events in Melbourne and share a deep sense of shame about what qantas serve in j to japan (ozeki). I think the best...

What is the greatest airline lounge in the world?

A lounge is about making somewhere you don’t really need to be pleasant for the time you are in there. If we could waltz from the train/Uber/bus to the plane without stopping and with certainty that we would get where we were going, I’m sure most of us wouldn’t spend a second longer in the...
