A Boyhood Dream Fulfilled: Space-Geek Tour of the USA

I am enjoying this TR, I loved my visit to the KSC in Jul 99 especially as there was a heap of 30th Moon Landing anniversary exhibits (it was the best thing about Orlando by far). There was supposed to be a day Shuttle launch during my visit too, but it was also delayed and replaced with an...

    The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Id still like to see if that remains after it is ticketed. I've seen all sorts of odd things happen with QF ticketing, my trust is low.

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

No i was not way off on oil because as everyone can plainly see you are misunderstanding what was actually written. My original post was collective hence the & and I used the qualifier almost, I never said exactly. No where did I say almost 50% of each and every individual type of oil or...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

No you didnt read my statement carefully enough and conveniently ignored the "& minerals" part and the fact that I said it was a % of imports. 25% of the uranium the USA uses to power its 54 nuclear power stations comes from Canada. Uranium imports are part of that "& minerals" and a cost...

Qantas surveying members about spend-based status attainment

So simpler/cheaper making SCs more expensive would be to not run DSCs and remove lounge access for JQ flights; easily done as aren't OW. Although again I think you over estimate how many JQ passengers are in the F lounge on any given day. Noting that QF First already impose a 1 glass per...

    The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I have seen QF Flight number show on Classic Awards seats on FJ in the search results (so same situation as LATAM above), but when you select and go through to buy, they end up ticketing as FJ flight numbers. So I wouldn't be so sure the QF numbers will stick. Let us know if they do ticket as...

Qantas surveying members about spend-based status attainment

Have they actually claimed this, though? In my observations during DSC promos there are few sale fares available. If anything QF DSC promos encourage more non-essential flight purchases due to perceived benefits, even though many may not fly enough to significantly benefit from the...

    What to do about noshows?

Airside passenger transit from one flight to another will almost always be faster than the transfer of checked baggage between the same flights. Medical episodes aside if your luggage makes the connection, you should also generally have time to make the connection. If there are no shows and...

    What cheeses me off

Everyone makes judgements based on their own experience, you may think you are perfectly impartial/understanding but the truth is you too have plenty of conscious and unconscious biases. I personally think it is ok that we don't all think the same and don't all experience the world the same...

    What to do about noshows?

Although there are paid services to send luggage as unaccompanied air freight, much of which is actually carried on passenger flights. IS the inspection of those items greater than checked baggage? Many terrorist acts are the purview of suicide bombers. I just wonder if someone has...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

There can easily be an alternative. If people were to decide they trust (see the as more reliable) the Euro or GBP or another currency, it can become the currency of choice and over take the USD in places that dont have their own currency like Ecuador. One could also argue that Gold (or another...

Qantas surveying members about spend-based status attainment

The points accrued on most status runs are not generally that high. A SC run from SYD to AKL via OOL and MEL during a DSC can easily get you 580-600SCs but only about 17k points (which is only enough for a SYD-MEL RTN in whY). In my observation most P1s are not P1 due to a heap of status...

Qantas surveying members about spend-based status attainment

Status runs are about SCs not points. Most people earn more QFF points from non flying activities i.e. CCs and EDR so there will be just as many people with points to burn, just fewer with (in theory) earlier access to Classic Award. Yet as already observed several times up thread post covid...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Even in markets where the AUD isnt at peso levels travel hasn't exactly gotten cheaper. In 2019 AUD $100 got you on average JPY 75, now it gets you closer to 97 JPY but due to over tourism, a foreigner tax means the costs of hotels has increased by more than 20% so not really any cheaper to visit.

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

As usual a certain public figure hasn't properly thought through the consequences of his threats. Almost 50% of US Oil & Mineral imports come from Canada. In a cost of living crisis I imagine huge push back if peoples energy bills and transport costs suddenly increased by huge amount.

    What to do about noshows?

Passengers failing to board who have loaded checked luggage is IME very common, probably 1 in every 3-4 international flights I've taken, it is very annoying. Im sure for every genuine medical emergency (even then you'd think they'd let the airline know they were too ill to continue the...

Yep A380 back on Syd-DFW from August and very very welcome; as the windows storage is very handy (787 lacks a good spot to put handbag).
