JAL 777-300ER back on Sydney route

    I was looking in late September/early October and JAL's website has a 788 listed - not even a 789, so quite a downgauge from a 77W.

    Booking frequent flyer flights

Why yes, yes there is... https://concierge.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/ They'll dig up the flights for you, then you book it like you would a cash booking, but with points instead. (But having said that, you could try some dummy bookings on Qantas, VA or whoever you have points with to get...

    Turkish Airlines with Qantas Leg

Not necessarily - *A relies on operating carrier, while OW is marketing carrier, so a TK codeshare on QF can only be booked to TK (EDIT if they're on QF codes they can be booked to QF or any other OW airline). (IME, I had a TK codeshare on MH a couple of years ago that I couldn't book to either...

    Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

800 points for $70. Not great, but doable (particularly when stacking with a gift card cashback offer through Special Gift Cards on my Citi Premier card). It naturally came after I used my last (at least until the next half price deal) Everyday Extra discount at the weekend.

Checked baggage allowance Qantas rewards ticket with American Airlines

It certainly does for other passengers travelling with someone with AA status so I presume it applies on partner airlines - https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/aadvantage-program/discover/member-statuses.html?tab1=2

JQ intl to dom flight operated from intl

There are similar examples of passengers having to recheck on international flights in MEL and SYD, at least on Qantas (e.g. here at post 54, and here for example). It's not just a Perth thing. Maybe JQ does indeed have different arrangements. I can't say I know myself...

JQ intl to dom flight operated from intl

Hey, I'm just going off what Qantas was highlighting in their response to the Aviation Green paper here where at page 104 they state: If you're more familiar with such procedures than Qantas, I shall defer to your superior knowledge though.

JQ intl to dom flight operated from intl

We'll see I guess. SYD-MEL on JQ17 would definitely be characterised an international flight when flown as part of a complete SYD-MEL-HKT itinerary. However, I remain unconvinced that a SYD-MEL flight flown as that can be characterised as 'international' merely because it leaves from and...

JQ intl to dom flight operated from intl

Of course, SYD-AKL would be an international connection. SYD-MEL would not be. Here we have JQ14 KIX-SYD connecting JQ17 SYD-MEL (which forms part of the broader international JQ17 SYD-MEL-HKT service), but which is not being flown as an international sector here. (Qantas does have...

JQ intl to dom flight operated from intl

If the OP was flying for example JQ17 from SYD-MEL-HKT, the SYD-MEL sector would be international as it's part of a direct (but not non-stop) international service, but I would've thought that here, it's like any other domestic service as they're on a different incoming flight number (JQ14).

JQ intl to dom flight operated from intl

    It's still a domestic flight: https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/help/articles/domestic-flights-departing-from-an-international-terminal

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Had the pork with sticky lemon sauce on VA898 from SYD-MEL last night (other choice was a chicken and mushroom pasta). Was 'meh' and very dry (there was a distinct lack of lemon sauce - perhaps inadvertently omitted). Didn't eat much as I was pretty full from my previous flight.

JQ intl to dom flight operated from intl

You sure about that? I would've expected that, while the bags will indeed be through-tagged to MEL, as SYD is the first point of entry into Australia, you'll need to clear customs, and collect and recheck the bags as it's international to domestic (even if leaving from international). This...

Qantas Salt & Pepper Squid thread

Thanks to the generosity of @Robert K donating a Flounge pass, I got to partake of salt and pepper squid for the second time on 28 December in SYD. Was as good as I remembered it last time.

    Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

On 2 January, fully 12 days after doing the offset, I got an email indicating I'd requalified for Green Tier. Hooray... Finally... Right! Right? Errr... no... Upon login, I see that the offset leaf is not showing and 'offset flying' is not showing as 'Done'. Another manual intervention is...

Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

And got QF104 from HNL to SYD at T-27 as a QPPS too on 1 Jan. Y CR (i.e. X) to business. A bit extravagant as it's a daytime flight, but it was a very comfortable way to while away the hours. Just need to rebuild the points balance now for my next big redemption in August. ;)

Velocity asking for more money the day of travel or they’ll cancel my ticket

That's a legitimate fear, but if the correct price has been paid for the second flight (as it seems to have been), there really wouldn't be any legitimate grounds to do so (as the mistake is with a different ticket/contract) and VA would be in a world of pain...

Velocity asking for more money the day of travel or they’ll cancel my ticket

It's like any other mistake fare (or indeed anything else mistakenly priced in trade or commerce): nice if you can pull it off, but not something you should be expecting to be honoured. Where the line should be drawn between 'genuine screw-up' and misleading pricing is a tricky thing to judge...
