Thanks for the quick reply! How long had you held the checking account if you don't mind me asking? Also which link did you use, was it the normal one on us.hsbc.com/? I don't even have the checking account debit card yet, but do have the account details and have paid some cash in (and linked it...

    Revolut v Wise

Agree, the only significant benefit of either is if you either want to hold or transfer between currencies, and to accounts in other countries. Wise USD checking account pays my US Amex cards for example.

I have a HSBC US with my AU address, how did you go about getting the CC? I presume Premier MC? Any insight would be great, TIA! Only just opened it (although been AU Premier for a fair while).

Is Citi Plus still the best option for overseas cash?

MasterCard Platinum cards can be issued by any lender, most of them aren't forex free. The Commbank ones may be - I know the Commbank Ultimate Awards and Smart Awards MCs are (but with minimum spends of $2.5k/$4k monthly to avoid the fee), as are the BankWest World and Platinum MasterCards (with...

Is Citi Plus still the best option for overseas cash?

I never realised that, I've always known both Aussie and UK cards to have forex fees...all other countries in fact, even Canada afaik...I suppose a corporate card it doesn't matter so much (unless it's you paying the corporation's bills!).

Hmm, not flagged as a CMRA according to this ZIP Code™ Lookup | USPS That's the only known issue I've had with addresses. I use Torrance (previously Gardena) too.

Is Citi Plus still the best option for overseas cash?

US Amex cards don't charge forex fees, if he has one (or more) of them.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

No worries - I tend to do it in $2k blocks every few days in the first couple of weeks, withdrawing I so straight away, it's back in ANZ in minutes 🤣. Haha why doesn't that surprise me! I guess it'll live on for a while...we used to be able to fax from work using the MFDs that mainly print...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

No worries. Yes I did, didn't bother changing my salary deposits so just moved it manually from ANZ and back (use the HSBC App for this, there's no Fast Payments online, annoyingly). About month 7 they sent me a letter (online in the messaging centre) welcoming me to Premier. I hadn't used a...

If you just pay in $9k per month for six consecutive months, you'll just become Premier automatically. This is in Australia, to obtain an Aussie Premier Account for those already holding a Global Everyday Account.

I would suggest waiting until your FICO appears, which is more difficult to find out now the app doesn't show it. Awardwallet does show it though, once it's there.

If you use QF points for payment you won't earn more QF points - however when you go to purchase, there's a slider to select to how many points to use, slide that to zero and max $ amount, and bingo.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Almost certainly yes. I was buying WISH cards when they were 4x points (on QF Marketplace) and they were coded as airfare on my Gold (3x MR), so I would expect the same from Aspire (7x HH).

Didn't expect this to be my breaking point, but it finally came!

It is, and that’s why it’s imposed on European carriers at all times and non European carriers departing the EU only - “you want to use our airports, you’ll follow our rules”. I’m not 100% sure why it doesn’t cover inbound, but I guess because the UK/EU have no jurisdiction over what goes on...

Not personally with Wise, in fact I've had some really difficulties with prepaid cards, but there's always a way. Can you add them to Apple Pay? I'd suggest trying to use them to top up Revolut then either Rev-US card or Rev-Wise-US card, if that works (no guarantees though, sadly).

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I would imagine so, they'd just code as Qantas spend on any which award extra points for that too. But I've never purchased them via that route. I do usually buy 4% discounted gift cards through Woolies Insurance and through a work gift card portal, Aussie cards have always just counted them as...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I wouldn't worry about it. After leaving the 10 days, you don't even need to change the address, just need to ask them for a new card to be sent to you overseas. I've been using Planet Express, not a single letter, card or anything has turned up, allegedly, even when tracked/signed for and with...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I've got the Aspire too, it was my first US card! But the Surpass currently comes with 130k + 1x free night, also a free night on 15k spend (as opposed to 30k & 60k) on the Aspire - so any normal spending (3x HH points) on that one and multiplier spend (airfare/car rental 7x, Hilton 14x) on the...
