I'm finding it rare to get a seat in QF cattle class where everything actually works. Last long haul to the States my video screen didn't work. The flight before that my seat kept collapsing. If only I could afford business class...:(

Cheaper LAX hotels are, in the main, black holes. If you can swing the cash, stay at a reputable one in the LAX area. Outside LAX, I always recommend Holiday Inn Express, anywhere. Ozimax.

I tried to book a flight from Sydney to Coffs Harbour today using points. There were many seats available. They were all Sydney - Melbourne - Brisbane - Coffs Harbour. 7 1/2 hours travel for what is normally a 55 minute flight (or 35 minutes on VB). Is Qantas serious? No sane person wants to...

Waited half an hour today for international res. Reminds me of the good ol' Ansett days...also waited half hour for NAB to transfer my MC points over. Lesson? The greater the profits, the less customer service given. Oh for some real competition in Oz, both in banking and in the airline industry.

When I visit the USA (14th trip next month coming up) I just pop into Walmart, pick up a prepaid phone for $30 (USD). This usually includes a brand new Nokia phone plus 300 minutes of credit. Can't beat that deal. They may be cheaper again this year. I still keep my iphone on, but I divert...
