Peru & Ecuador. Machu Picchu and a Galapagos cruise with a side of southern USA

Day 4. We found out what a difference an inch makes. The closed window massively reduced noise and I did get a decent sleep. 7am breakfast and straight to the hot stuff. Which wasn’t. Today we were offered hot dog sausages cut into coughtail size pieces, roasted spuds and scrambled eggs. There...

Peru & Ecuador. Machu Picchu and a Galapagos cruise with a side of southern USA

I do like to live like a local when travelling and enjoy the differences in culture.

Peru & Ecuador. Machu Picchu and a Galapagos cruise with a side of southern USA

Day 3. We had a tour booked for a 9am pick up so we hit the breakfast room just on 7.15 in high hopes. Today the fruit was paw paw, pineapple and watermelon, the potatoes were now chips, deep fried chicken wings and legs replaced the Mediterranean chicken and scrambled eggs were on again. But...

Peru & Ecuador. Machu Picchu and a Galapagos cruise with a side of southern USA

Day 2. Waking at around 5am to the sounds of the cook on the 8th floor preparing breakfast started us off. Breakfast started at 7am and we presented at about 8.30. The breakfast room is on the top floor and has an open balcony out to the world. The offerings were basic but adequate; cereals...

Peru & Ecuador. Machu Picchu and a Galapagos cruise with a side of southern USA

Our latest adventure in May 2025 is a trip to Peru and Ecuador. Ride along with us as we work the second-last Platinum-released award seat flights starting on April 23. Awake at Stupid O’Clock to catch the 06:05 Hobart to Sydney flight. The day started poorly with the off-airport parking...

Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Akl-Syd. Did a points request upgrade discount Y to J. I thought I offered $270 and no points but seems my iPad glitched and sent an offer of $405 through, which was accepted at T-24. Still 2 spare seats on check in at T-23.59

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

Nice mud but. Gave JB Premium that most excellent taste.

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

So the ‘bar’ pre-noon is now just the fridge. No spirits I could see and not much place to stash them. Next journey I’ll be more alert but that’s a 0600 deal so alert may not apply. I’m going to cause a ruckus now; Boags used to be the best beer but since COVID Lion, in their wisdom, now brew...

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

Must be. Only new to the ‘Hood so not sure if this is normal operations. But the lounge is the least appealing of all main city lounges. Reminds me of the cupboard that is Coffs Harbour.

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

Ooops doesn’t quite describe this delay. Real time reporting here.

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

No joke. The young girl was adamant they could not come in with their business class seat, they needed to be Qantas club and some other status I didn’t hear. More food pictures? No, that was all there was. More variety at your average family Christmas party.

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

Yes. Basically veer left towards the windows and it’s there. Actually has a large red sign so you can’t miss it. And breaking news QF seem to have stopped the random update love as currently in 4A and sooo close to a vacant 3C & 3D. But someone known to QF staff got a free big seat at the gate 😪

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

First time in the temporary lounge for HBA whilst renovations are occurring. Definitely not an improvement - toilets are now in the public concourse and the space is smaller. Food offering area is also smaller so nice and intimate. Today they have tomatoes, a week ago they were off the menu. In...

VA vs. QF - total package differences?

Our flight plans are usually 12 months ahead for annual holidays, so the good availability on SQ is encouraging. I think I'll be starting to accrue VA points from now on.

VA vs. QF - total package differences?

First up, your profile image triggers me. And if you are actually a QF 'insider' then your post highlights exactly why I wish to ditch QF. You seem to <not be aware a> TA will not deal with reward seats and will charge a decent fee to book any other trip. I do not need a call centre to make...

VA vs. QF - total package differences?

Some good points you make, and I agree in the main. OW status is a bit of a concern, but if we are flying J then we have lounge access and that's our priority. I can't see me giving QF enough business to go back to Plat so I need to find the best no-status call centre offering I can find. The...

VA vs. QF - total package differences?

Not a great start indeed. Sounds like they went to the same training school QF uses.

VA vs. QF - total package differences?

Folks I am a rusted on QF-flyer of 20 years. But, QF customer service has broken me and and I am looking at moving my flying to Virgin and partners. The oversea's call centres that don't know IATA codes (DUB is not Dubai sweetie and you ought to know what LAX stands for) and their lack of...

Linking 2 bookings on Oneworld flights?

Thanks. As I thought and was going to bat my eyelids at checkin to see what I'd get. We're going from BA to AY so I fully expect a SNAFU to occur at some point.
