    The Skiers & Snowboarders Thread

Yep, yuzawa area. Shink to Gala direct, not echigoyuzawa station, and they are set up for day trippers. 80 min each way journey. Simple enough slopes for any level for a day.

    Qantas Points Cracker promotion

For anyone who “didn’t get the offer”. It’s universal, or at least everyone with an AU address. You may need to update the app or log it out and back in, but you will have it eventually.

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

That’s cheap for Tokyo now. Hotels I stayed in regularly pre-covid for 400-600AUD a night are now somehow asking 2000. And the dollar has strengthened, not weakened, so it’s not an exchange rate issue. Insanity, considering no renovations etc to justify it (shangrila and Conrad are 2 examples).

    Japanese Yen - Cash

All cards allow you to withdraw local currency. The atms wouldn’t be stocked with anything else! What mac bank offer, similar to Bankwest and a few others, is no foreign exchange fee and no foreign atm fee.

NIB will cover stopovers for 72 hours without being listed!

Sydney T3 Security Checkpoint - lost property

I’ve heard the only way to recover property there (SYD) is go in person.

How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Hilton are great about not playing that BS game of “we upgraded you to a club room without club access”. I’ve never heard of any Hilton-wide brand hotel doing it.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

One off. Seems like some nonsense misunderstanding tbh that gets blown up because no one takes responsibility. Should post asking for an update, if I remember to do it

HSBC Premier credit card - too good to be true?

Not sure anyone has money with them. Everyone on here seems to have set up the same auto transfer. Takes about 2 min to setup on my banking apps and it’s done, I guess I lose 1 month of coughulative interest on 9k, with 3 days per month that money is out of action. Not insignificant but the card...

    ANA Perth-Tokyo flight - now year-round

Yes and no. Its first season was 2019 Sept so it stopped running in 2020, of course. Also I think this has a thread already and was posted when announced.

Amex Application: Is 1xCC better than NO CCs

It is taken into account. If you had an issue prior you’d get even less credit

Finnair Flight disruption - Overnight layover support

The answer is always book in advance. Sort your own stuff out and get compensation later, if any. At least you’ll be comfortable, and only possibly out of pocket

    Skyscanner cheap flight booking sites

Do you pay Skyscanner? There’s your answer as to why they promote various sites. You get a rep for selling the cheapest flights on any search. Even if people book a level higher or a different site, you go back because they were so much cheaper.

    ANA Perth-Tokyo flight - now year-round

SQ have their own lounge. I am certain which lounge ANA use firsthand, as my only trip with them from PER was in 2020, but I’m pretty sure it’s Aspire. NRT, while longer, has some simple connections esp for Shinkansen and certain domestic flights. For my purposes is works well, but HND would...

    Linking 2 separate rewards bookings

what he said. Though it’s about a single ticket, it is technically possible to put them in the same PNR; but it’s irrelevant because the ticket is not 1 single ticket with protections.

How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Got an invite to Delta silver medallion today via HH. Not sure who is eligible. Well timed before a Garuda flight- better than nothing!

    Japanese Yen - Cash

Wise is a poor idea compared to a fee free debit unless you only want $350 a month. After that it adds a bunch of fees

    ANA Perth-Tokyo flight - now year-round

Yep. Hoping for a business sale to promote it!

    more than 1 Australian Amex?

I have 3. The edge still earns more points at supermarkets and the annual fee is offset by the credit anyway, so it’s net win. The reserve gives me free travel credit for no annual fee (no longer available) and the plat is my main card.

    What cheeses me off

If you want the points should get a Bankwest credit card for overseas. Points plus no foreign exchange fee. Best of both worlds. Or CBA if your regular spend is higher
