A sad goodbye to M*****0 (passport expiry)

My recently expired US passport has two neat round holes punched through the front cover and machine readable part. Sadly only a few stamps in it however. I'll have to get busy. Contemplating a trip to France in Sept/Oct which might help start off the new one.:p

    NAB Qantas Premium 75k bonus

Sonny if this is a bit off topic. Due to constant hacking of my NAB Virgin Platinum card, I had to cancel it. I had very inconsistent and confusing information and "help" from NAB. They only partly refunded the fraudulent charges. No more NAB cards for me. I"m using an eftpos card until i get...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

I use Amex for 99% of my purchases for the points. I have had both of my NAB credit cards hacked starting in October '16 and things are not resolved yet. There were a couple of attempts on my Amex card at the same time. Amex resolved the problem immediately by declining the false charges or...

As a kid, I dreamed of flying this as the ultimate indulgence

Still plenty og 747s at Bangkok. The airport was full of them in late 2015. Probably still around.

Domestic Lounge For Virgin Australia Tullamarine

Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread. I paid for access on Jan 15th this year just to see if it was worth joining. It didn't appear to be worth joining. The food available was minimal and as it is January the place was full of kids running around. This was Sunday morning just prior...

Business class - worth the points?

I'm having a hard time not upgrading to J on a Virgin flight from Melb to Hobart! A bit excessive I guess.:p I'll just pay for lounge access instead. No more Y on overseas trips for sure.

    Virgin Domestic Flight

Thank you for the info. I half expected something like that. I usually flash my Red FF card. Flights to Hobart on a Saturday or Sunday In January are not usually full of higher status flyers, I guess.

    Virgin Domestic Flight

Can anyone explain why the first 10 or so rows in Y are shown as unavailable when I try to choose a seat. I have been seated up front upon request at check in, however. Possibly they are trying to fill the plane from the back like a bus or something. It's on a flight to Hobart and return. It is...

Sale on Oneworld Explorer RTW fares

Thanks for the further information. To my regret, I doubt that AONEx will be in my immediate future and LONEx would be too painful for anything but short flights at my age!

Sale on Oneworld Explorer RTW fares

All very interesting. Not sure what DONEx means, though. I have access to a TA recommended by a friend who uses them a lot, so no problems there, My relatives in the US are moving targets (caravan to Florida in winter, back to Idaho or California, etc in summer.) so I won't be able to plan much...

What have you had taken off you by security?

Upon arrival at LAX several years ago a customs inspector asked me (I'm American) what is that Vegemite for that all the Aussies were carrying. I told him that the stuff is harmless but beware and not to open open any or the smell might knock him out. Hope I didn't offend any Australians!

Sale on Oneworld Explorer RTW fares

Do people think it best to use a recommended TA for around the world. I'm planning a possible trip LA to Salt Lake to NYC and back via France/England. Most probably Sept/Oct next year. It would be a mixture of J on long hops and Y on the shorter trips. I can never get the around world options to...

    Strangest checkin luggage?

Quite a few years ago we brought back a ceremonial club (apparently from Africa) that resided in my wife's aunt's house in England since colonial days. When asked by customs where the club came from, we had to quickly prevent my young son from saying it was from Africa. I quickly explained that...

    Window Shades UP or DOWN?

On the NZ-LA route I like to peek out of the window at the sunrise. I only raise the shade slightly so as not to annoy others. I usually book a seat on the right side midway down the J cabin if I can. Sleep seems to elude me on long haul and I can not stand eye masks (maskphobia perhaps?

    Choice Of Seat

Some time ago there was a comment about getting a preferred seat on a flight. Someone suggested checking an airline site a day or hours and trying again to get a good seat. That just worked for me on Virgin. It's only a trip from Melbourne to Hobart tomorrow but 3D beats 17D every time. Just a...

    Need Advice A Bad Knee

Thank you for that. I would have shown the stick to the airline/customs if required, however I don't think they would have objected. The end is flat, I'm not sure about the other types.

    Need Advice A Bad Knee

I meant to submit my "stick report" yesterday6 now that I'm home but other things intervened. I simply put the folded stick in my carry on bag as I do not need it for support at the moment. I didn't mention it and was not inspected by security. I will see my GP soon about the the next step...

Disappointed in Air NZ Lounge Melbourne

Maybe I was a bit harsh. I was there about 1PM I think. The place was preetty empty at the time. I don't expect anyone to serve me but staff was pretty scarce. The greeting upon entry certainly was pleasant, though. I had used it about 6 years ago.

Disappointed in Air NZ Lounge Melbourne

It took me twenty minutes to find the place! Very dismal surroundings anv very limited food offerings. The staff spent most of their time chatting to each other, ignoring the few clients in there at the time. Am I being judgemental or was I missing something? This was on October 16th last.:(
