QF DOM Y Dinner 'enhanced' to a footy pie?

Hi all

I flew BNE-CBR on QF959 last night. Having flown this flight many times, I was looking forward to what is (usually) a pretty good full dinner service. What came out of the cart surprised me. Not a dinner tray, but a pie. Yes, a humble pie, wrapped in that breathable plastic stuff like one you have bought at the footy. No dinner tray, just the pie, a serviette and the grey recycling bag they normally provide for snack services.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind the odd pie every now and then but I have two issues with this. Firstly, when Qantas is advertising this flight as having a hot dinner service, I think this is a little misleading (and was vastly inferior to the hot dinner service I had on the CBR-BNE leg a week earlier - chicken masala- yum!). Secondly, this was a particularly poorly constructed pie which made a damn mess while you were eating it. I had it all over my hands and chunks of it on the tray table. You may say that I need to work on my pie eating skills but I was not the only one having this problem - one of the FAs did several runs up and down the aisle offering additional napkins.

Has anyone else experienced this? Part of me thinks it must have just been a catering issue or something that prevented them being able to load full meals and it was just a one off. But another part of me cant help think this is the lastest 'enhancement' from QF. If it is, it seems absurd to me that QF is reducing their in flight offering at the exact same time as VA/DJ is rapidly improving theirs. Honestly, this pie experience made the whole flight feel like I had bought a 1p flight on Ryanair.

To top it all off my priority tagged bags were among the last onto the belt in CBR. But that is a rant for another day...

Yes, sad isn't it....

Did SYD-BNE last week, got a quiche in that breathable bag wrapping. Eat in Lounge before flight is my motto.

This has been mentioned on FT ... I suggest full complaints to Qantas be done each and every time such is proffered.

Saying that - atleast the chicken pies comes in a tray (and was quite tasty)

Flew Mel-Syd Thurs night and got the chicken pie, sans tray, just in plastic wrap. It tasted quite good but if I hadn't eaten in the lounge I might have been a little peeved!

Different pie then. The one I've had recently was in a full meal tray, but wasn't like a mrs mac pie

No, no tray - plastic wrap only. International flight (domestic leg), I thought possibly something a little better - but maybe it being Christmas Day was a factor? (The "Cafe Breakfast" on QF24 the same day, wasn't anything to write home about either - yoghurt and a blueberry muffin. . . . )

That is typical in Canberra - even flying J and SG/WP you only get your bags out in some rational fashion about 50% of the time. I know there are a lot of WPs and higher in Canberra but still......

Flew CBR-BNE today via Sydney; my luggage had no priority tags at all so came out rather late among all the other baggage (on three full flights) at BNE. I checked my baggage through manually at the check-in desk in Canberra, owing to a malfunctioning Q tag, but didn't notice that the check-in lady did not tag my bags appropriately. I guess it only cost me 5 mins at the other end but still ....

I know we get a bit precious about wanting to get this done properly :) It is a very little thing, but somehow it really bugs me, even though I try to tell myself it doesn't matter..... My worst was when we flew J from Cairns to CBR and someone very neatly cut the priority tags off! A few years ago now, but I am still cross!

I don't get what you are talking about with the tags. Domestically there are no Pink/Orange tags anymore, hasn't been since NGCI was introduced.

As I said a few years ago now - we flew J from cairns to Canberra via Sydney or it might have been Brisbane. On handing over the bags at cairns nice orange priority tags were added - probably should have been pink, but I am not one to hassle. On arriving in Canberra, our bags were among the last to come out. The orange tags on all bags had been neatly cut off, level with the luggage tags, but you could still see the bit of orange embedded in the tag. I actually kept the tags for a few years in order to complain and then threw them away, as I never seem to get around to complaining - too lazy...If you did a search on here you might even find the thread I put up to ask if it had ever happened to anyone else..... Just checked a previous post of mine and July 2010 was when it was and Cairns was definitely attaching priority tags at that point....

I had the pie a while back. Don't remember which sector. I didn't mind it to be honest.

I was on this flight on Christmas Day too, and considering the time it lands I was also hoping for a full breakfast or brunch - but maybe QF kind of expects us to sort out our own lunch when we arrive.

I got one of those pies from bne to mel. Didn't even open it. The addition of hot chips might have changed my mind! :D

Mine sat unopened also - not really what I'm looking forward to after a 10 hr international flight, and tiny breakfast. Thankfully, the Christmas dinner I was met with later, was substantially better. :D

The FA on my SYD-MEL flight was telling me about the pies last Saturday, they are only during the holiday break, while "business travellers" aren't flying as much. i think it was until the 7th January.
