So first delivery in the July-December 2017 window (1H18) and 8 aircraft within a 24-month period.

The map on Pg.37 is interesting.
Potential new destinations of Moscow, Addis Abbaba, Seattle, Mexico City

...and return of capital to investors! Things really must be looking up!

Admittedly there is a disclaimer noting that these destinations are shown to demonstrate range from eastern Australia only.

I nearly choked when I read that list ... until I saw the actual map and they are merely cities within the range (although Moscow looks outside the range ) :) A bit bizarre that they would map out Seattle and not Vancouver ... Pleasing to Boeing no doubt, but not necessarily to the potential customers.

Still someone within QF decided to list those particular destinations - plenty of other alternatives.

Seemingly also means the 2 remaining old 747s with SkyBed Is will be around till late 2017 -- should have been refurbed with the others

Should also have added New York to the destinations list -- definitely a game changer if the 789 can fly SYD-JFK direct (albeit one helluva long flight).

Guess it will depends on the relative feeds on the LAX-JFK segments from BNE, MEL, SYD as to whether it makes sense.

EDIT - Although unsure if the white band actually means New York (and Moscow) are outside the range limits (just)

Looking forward to the threads that go along the lines of "QF should have kept the 744s, this 3-3-3* config is rubbish!"

So fuel projection based on Brent price of $71 to 100 per barrel. :?: current spot price around $50.

Definitely welcome news. And luckily it looks like I won't need to eat my hat after all.

What is more interesting on the range map is the missing bits. What is the range from PER? My guess is that PER would put Cape Town/JNB, IST/SAW, MUC all firmly within range. Seasonal flight to IST and MUC every year? Competing with SAA/VA to South Africa from PER?

On the east coast range, there doesn't seem much scope to remove 747s from SYD-JNB or Santiago.

I really hope they choose the "premium" option and go with a 2-4-2 layout. It would be a good way to differentiate themselves from JQ, for starters. And having flown the JL 787 with 2-4-2 config, there was a noticeable difference in comfort.

How many times have we heard things like "I won't fly Air NZ/EK in a 777 because of the 3-4-3 layout!" on AFF?

There are lots of statistics and profit measures in the QF result but one of the most important is:
FINANCIAL POSITION
Operating cash flow in financial year 2015 was $2 billion, up from $1.1 billion in financial year 2014.

Congratulations to all those QF staff who contributed to this result. A comment to all those doomsayers who said that we we would all lose our QFF points : Boo!

QF reads that and thinks ... PER? PER? What and where is this PER thing? We only fly from Sydney in Australia, don't we? (Well, OK from MEL as well, but only because we have to get the planes back to Sydney.)

This is the range from SYD:

And by comparison the range from PER:

So, many new routes from Perth would theoretically be possible. Cape Town, Johannesburg (and in fact most of Africa), Istanbul and even Rome seem to be within reach. Germany would be a bit of a stretch but also seems possible - though I suspect any European routes would be via DXB anyway.
